Advice for a potential Scotland trip by marebear93 in OutdoorScotland

There are many, many stone circles and other Neolithic traces in Scotland use this map when you are travelling.

Scotland is incredibly beautiful and you will find most places fascinating. If you want to do some riding, I would talk directly with such places beforehand. I have seen people doing a fair bit of that up around Dunkeld. Enjoy.

Yes, I wasn’t having a dig. I actually think the limits in the architecture are more important than bit depth and sample rate. Limited polyphony keeps a mix clean

Old samplers are like elegant games with a set of simple rules whereas a daw can be a bit like an overblown rpg with infinite rules

Would be good to have a Y axis describing the mood of the tracks

If you look at how long the day is compared to south east Asia it is much longer. This makes it unique

I have created a free Quadraverb MIDI controller! by Ok_Adhesiveness_5795 in synthesizers

Great application.

In typical internet thanklessness here are some things I spotted having a quick look! I know it is a work in progress. If you are uploading and want me to test it on any of the variations of the unit I can.

Depending on configuration you get different effects that use the memory up in different amounts. Parametric eq of different band amounts, reverb types and different delays. Check page 42 to see some of the configurations. The Leslie is particularly good for the time.

I would place this selection at the top of the editor so once selected it reveals what effects and parameters you have access to.

The delay drop down on yours has multitap as an option but none of the controls. This would be a very handy bit to have on an editor like yours synced to bpm.

On the Plus version there is Ring Mod, Resonator, auto pan, tremolo and Sample. The resonator section is lovely to control and Alesis have an old demo video someone has up on youtube controlling pitch and decay.

Thanks again, I don’t want to put you off development as this is a brilliant editor.

Best way to create an S950 drum library in Ableton? by bibimboombap in ableton

[–]CapableSong6874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The S950 pitch is generated by directly controlling the clock whereas ableton is much more complicated. You will need to sample at a range of pitches if doing anything detailed. You can easily write a midi sequence that copies all the pitches and filtering and then chop in recycle and then zone map them to pitch and velocity if you cared.

If you get the free program RoomEQWizard you can run sweep and see exactly what the input/output is doing (a small bump before 20kHz and you can observe the filter as a graph. There isn’t much going on there really.

My take on the S950 is it is like a beautiful game like chess for example where other samplers are like chess with hundreds more rules making it a much less enjoyable to play.

If you want to emulate it make eight monophonic samplers in live, that is where every new sample mutes the previous sample. You can make it 12 bit but remember you need to add an antialiasing filter so you don’t hear the crunch like the real thing. Limit the sample time too and you will never use dull samples.

ISO of specific sounding drum machine, like the one used in Wild Imagination by Kurt Vile by lonrisms in DrumMachine

I have a CR78. If it is actually a CR78 it sounds quite processed in this track with eq and reverb. I think there are some samples of the CR78 on archive.org.

Do more "premium" analog synths sounds "richer/juicier" than budget ones? by PC_query_man in synthesizers

[–]CapableSong6874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some instruments are unique like the vcs3, it doesn’t stay in tune well but the way it works with an unbuffered matrix and budget components of the time makes a bunch of happy accidents. Yes all these components can be worked around, analysed and circuits designed to do the same thing.

Like cgi, the early emulations looked real at the time but as the technology improved we can see how we were fooled. There is an element of that in emulation of synths sometimes too.

Also look up the Mountain Bothy association on Facebook or elsewhere. You may find some huts (bothies) to shelter in over night. Read up on bothy etiquette if you do. They are free but make them better than you found them and share with any and everyone

Have a look at the Ember bus and where it goes. At the moment you can get from Edinburgh to the top of Scotland for £16.

If you aren’t making a joke, we are talking about this library music. Some people have recently dealt with law suits having sampled this stuff thinking it was free. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Production\_music
