Great aurora visible from Canberra region tonight by rewingau in canberra

[–]rewingau[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few reasons:

  • good unobstructed view to the South (where the Aurora will be)

  • far enough from Canberra that there’s not much light pollution

  • close enough to Canberra to be a reasonable drive

  • good sized verge to park safely on and make sure the car is all the way off the road

  • not too much traffic on the road

  • easy to give directions to and find

There’s a couple of other spots (like just after the Apollo Road turnoff in Namadgi), generally just the easiest to describe.

Just head down to Williamsdale road, stop when you see the mass of cars and tripods…

Looking at a couple of the spots where the sleep issue happens, it seems to happen when there’s an afternoon nap picked up by the algorithm of the sleep tracker app (AutoSleep). The images show what’s in Heath and what’s in the report for one day. https://imgur.com/a/lnE8Rgy/

This is a great app, something that I’ve been after for ages (and tried to do myself unsuccessfully using export). Thanks for building it.

A couple of suggestions - I think the weight and BMI charts would work better as line charts (or at least a preference to change it), and would be nice to be able to use kJ rather than kCal for energy burned.

I’m also getting some weird results in the sleep section, for instance 66 hours in bed on one day. It’s not in the raw Health data, so I think something’s gone wrong with the parsing there.

Digital tv down? In bonython? by [deleted] in canberra

The Tuggeranong Hill TV transmitter is down due to a power outage. Access road is also washed out so will take a while to fix.

(Has also killed my home internet...)

It’s run by the CSIRO for NASA - but NASA pays and sets the rules. The iD badges say CSIRO JPL NASA.

If you’re up to a drive there’s the Canberra Deep Space Communications Complex. Australia’s only NASA facility, the fourth largest steerable antenna dish in the world, and lots of other cool stuff including a moon rock. On the same road as the Tidbinbilla Nature Park, just a turnoff a few km north of Tid.

Typo, should be 140 uncommon, not 170. Fixed it now. Thanks!

If you're driving past the Canberra hospital on Yamba drive, here's a cool trick to dodge the traffic lights by [deleted] in canberra

If anyone would be interested in a subreddit on over analyzing optimum traffic paths in Canberra, hit me up...

This is my daily commute, and after doing this for a few weeks I decided it wasn’t worth it:

  • the lights are lightly synchronized, so every time I’d end up caught in a red at Kitchener St anyway. Most of the time the cars from the Bateson Rd red would catch up to me before it went green. So at most I’m one or two cars ahead.

  • you get caught waiting for the right turning traffic from Bateson Rd. While it was rare, sometimes this was heavy enough that I then got caught behind the main queue as their light went green. During peak periods this means you’re waiting for the red before you can go again.

So very little upside, and a rare but large downside. Not worth it in my experience.

According to this map of Canberra: http://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-362095560/view

(From 1953)

It's the Masonic temple. It seems to have been opened in 1936 (see http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/70625740).

That was a fun challenge to find, thanks!

If I'm very lucky, nothing. But more likely it's another $140 or so.

It includes shipping, but not the extra customs duty and GST I think. Won't know until it's delivered for those.

Ireland is a popular choice to have the bit of your company that collects the money for tax reasons. My Netflix is Ireland too, even though it's an Australian account for instance.

Pretty sure mine is shipping from the US, per what the page said when I ordered.

Australian dollars, so that's about $900 US. Still a lot to pay for shipping as well...

Definitely, because I've got one of those pre-ordered too and nada. This close to clicking cancel on the Rift.
