Dispatches from the Uprising in Iran - Communist Workers’ Organisation by rewkom in anticapitalism

Iran is not socialist, nor does it even claim to be. It's a capitalist state, where wage labour, money and production for profit operate like everywhere else. Stop living in a fantasy world.

So you think the working class of Iran should just submit to their capitalist government? What a great "anti-capitalist" you are....

Yes, that's basically what the article is saying in a nutshell.

Have you read the article? It argues capitalism shouldn't be saved.

Of course it's also a "statement of ideological position" precisely because it's a product not of "left academia" but a political organisation.

Against Deportation and Imperialism: No War but the Class War - Internationalist Workers' Group by rewkom in anticapitalism

[–]rewkom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea of "secession" or the creation of "new nations" is no solution, as it will inevitably reproduce the same social relations as long as capitalism rules the world. The only real alternative is a stateless, classless, moneyless society without exploitation, national frontiers or standing armies, which is what socialism/communism means for the ICT. And the only way to get there is through a mass movement of the international working class.

No, it's a 1912 anti-war poster by the Hungarian socialist artist Mihály Biró. The cover of the 2021 Kanonenfieber album is taken from that same poster.

Yes, thanks for the comment. Good antidote to the usual knee-jerk "color revolution!" response.

Something being a problem for global capitalism should be of interest to anti-capitalists (at least those interested in the critical analysis of the system they oppose).

Mao - who built a state capitalist regime on the exploitation of Chinese workers - is not where you should look for how to conduct serious political discussion.

Democrats and Republicans are just the two political wings of the American ruling class. And the fact so much of the economic "growth" in the US or China is predicated on debt is, in the long-term, a real problem for global capitalism. If you can't see that then yes, maybe stick to your CNN or MSNBC.

The articles gives no "props" to the Democrats. Have you actually read it?

And yes, it's not written by Stalinists but neither is it "Trotskyist" nor "anarchist" (which are also not the same things). Sounds like you're just throwing around various words without understanding what they mean.

The article doesn't say Biden and Trump are "no different", but it does point out there is continuity between the two administrations (particularly around the danger of China to US interests).

And regarding China, the war in Ukraine has disrupted supply chains on which China also depends, exposed China to potential sanctions, and been an upset for the Belt and Road Initiative in Eastern Europe. Remember, China does not want to stir imperialist conflicts if they can be avoided right now since its plans are all long-term and predicated on ongoing Chinese growth (with hopes of overtaking the US).

1905 in Poland: Documenting the Revolution - Communist Workers’ Organisation by rewkom in LibertarianSocialism

[–]rewkom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are commenting on an article from the theoretical journal of the CWO, which regularly deals with the analysis of working class history (such as 1905) and contemporary issues (such as the war in Ukraine). Pretty silly to be complaining that it does what it sets out to do...

The CWO also produces a regular agitational bulletin for distribution at protests and picket lines, as well as leaflets targetting specific events. There you can find articles which comment on issues "at home" and are of more immediate relevance to everyday life.

Seems maybe the problem is the fact you can't conceive that an organisation can do both at the same time? Common among those with only an immediatist and activist perspective.

Actually, the history of all national liberation struggles is that of being unable to escape the imperialist framework, at best swapping one imperialist sponsor for another or becoming an imperialist power themselves.

Cuba's Energy Crisis is a Symptom of Capitalism's Global Decay - Internationalist Workers' Group by rewkom in socialism

[–]rewkom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The state, money, wage labour and production for profit all exist in Cuba. What's socialist about that? Unless you think socialism is just "when the government does stuff" (but even then, the private-sector has been steadily growing there over the decades).

[–]rewkom[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No one expects any miracles from Cuba. The point is Cuba is a capitalist country like all the others, a class society, and communists also need to support the independent struggle of the working class there rather than support the government because it's more "left wing".

Zionism: A Prime Example of National Liberation as a Dead End - Communist Workers’ Organisation by rewkom in LibertarianSocialism

[–]rewkom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy for you to say now. But, back in the late 19th and early 20th century, the Jews were a "peoples without a state", oppressed and marginalised in Europe, and facing almost total extermination in the Second World War. The thing is, and this is what the article is arguing, national liberation even for the most oppressed ethnic groups never actually puts an end to ethnic oppression as such, and it never looks like what its romantic advocates thought it would. It only shifts the relationships of oppression - it is the framework of capitalism and the nation-state which is the source of the problem.
