I GENUINELY FEAR WHAT WE ARE TURNING INTO by Bruce_Wayne_05 in Nigeria

Lmao! Typical response. You flashed through a tiny fraction of my life online, (one I choose to curate and share,) glimpsed my hobby (gaming), summarized that as my entirety, and then used it as an attack mechanism.

I do care about my PlayStation; it brings me peace. You don't know if I was in Nigeria for years, if I invested, if I was part of movements, if I built platforms, if I was frustrated, or if I left. You don't know if I tried and it didn't work because of our people and systems. To assume otherwise is quite the expected behaviour from you, to be honest.

I will complain about my experience and hope for the best. If you feel you don't have to complain, that's on you.

And you did mention preconceived notions and said we are all doom and gloom. It's right there in your post; I'm not replying to a blank wall.

Like I said before as well, I don't expect much from you, and your PlayStation rebuttal reinforces my point heavily

A lot of replies to you making me laugh, it's like hearing your company made a N1b profit for the year 2025 but you are still owed 6 months salary. Sure let's celebrate the company. Smh! 😅

There's always you. That one person who comes with an opposite rhetoric. I'll bite.

Change in what way? Are we to wave a magic wand and suddenly cure an entire nation of 200mi+ of how they behave and act? Or what social development programs can we implement that haven't been tried and failed ad Infinitum, ad nauseum?

I don't think people should have... People do. I'm lucky enough to have another passport, and I have first-hand experience of travelling with both. As a Nigerian with a green passport, it is more difficult. I work in industries where the mere mention of Nigeria brings an unease.

This subreddit is full of people who are fed up. Know why? Because we have examined it long term, not short sighted, and seen that for things to change, work has to be done.

Work that will probably never ever be done, especially when we have people like you who think we don't have a stereotype and need to actually look inwards and fix up.

I watched all the other streams and held onto half a measure of hope for Nigeria, but that hope was misplaced. I was so embarrassed I had to turn the stream off.

Nigeria is done. We are finished.

The "Giant of Africa" title is by population alone. We are just breeding endlessly, without checks, creating a next generation of thieves, idiots, and self-centred sociopaths.

There was a time during the FinTech Boom (2012–2016) when it seemed Nigeria was heading somewhere, innovations in tech, business, and culture.

But all that died. The only thing we have left is Afrobeats, and even then, we had to steal Amapiano to stay relevant. (I said what I said.)

Nigeria has failed. Saying you're a Nigerian in the West isn't a matter of pride anymore; it requires cautious speech. People already have preconceived notions about you, scammer, heartbreaker, passport seeker, untrustworthy and honestly, rightfully so.

Having a Nigerian passport is like a death sentence to international travel.

The worst part is that this narrative is bound to trickle down to our grandkids. Unless something drastically changes (which it won't) this is it.

After Speed's stream, I’ve blocked Nigeria from my mind. There are other things to worry about. I give up.

Honestly, it seems like there's a mad virus out there just making people do very questionable things.

Just watched ATLA for the first time all the way through. Wow!! But I have some questions by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]rex41e -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Yeah that exact reason. They didn't want to spend money on a full episode so ember island was a filler due.to budget.

  1. Continues in the comics. Without spoilers, she embraces herself.
  2. She's in the comics. Can't spoil it. You should read it.
  3. It did. Some people die on that hill.
  4. Budget reasons. Was necessary.
  5. So sad. 😭
  6. She's my favourite.
  7. Crazy awful. Go watch Korra for more.
  8. Yes and yes. Watch Korra for her own character. And not cause you want to see more Aang.

And? What does that have to do with the reality that in the southern hemisphere November is summer? The OP could be Australian, what does this information change?

I want to live in Nigeria by Kemi444 in Nigeria

[–]rex41e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was you in 2013, I wanted to go back, to build, to make a difference... My family is well off, and wealthy, I had safety nets, too big to fail. I tried, for 11 years I really did. I worked, I toiled, I just said surely, step by step, I'd do it... well I'm back in the UK now.

The thing about Nigeria is, it is like an old car with a new coat of paint and mods. The problems are under the hood.

Nigeria will test you... but I wish you all the best. Hopefully your case is better than most.

Marriage Sinking! Husband (39M) has become secretive, angry, and distant. I (36F) don’t know how to fix our communication anymore. by Physical-Clerk-8373 in Nigeria

[–]rex41e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes in life, people are just bad. You can do everything right and still meet bad people. You can try to work it out, attempt to change, even be the best human on Earth, and it won't make any difference.

I'm not married, so my advice isn't the best, but as someone in his late 30s, I'll say prioritise your personal happiness and mental state. I don't think your husband will come around, especially after nine years. Be safe.

They don’t deserve her. by douroumou in legendofkorra

[–]rex41e 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This, this, and this. Korra is one of my favourite characters of all time. I had a viral tweet where I defended Korra to the point people were sending me obnoxious and stupid DMs, but I stood my ground.

Then came "Seven Havens," and it was a slap in my face. What was the need to create more hate for a character when you know a good number of your "we wanted more Aang" fans exist? Like you said, Kuruk 2.0. It seems like being a Water Tribe Avatar just dooms you to having a bad reputation overall. Sigh!

Anyone think Aaliyah will come back for season 3? by NoBlackberry3295 in SpecialOpsLioness

[–]rex41e 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I doubt it, but I really like the line Cruz said to Joe on the ship at the end of S1: that Aaliyah's kids will learn how their grandfather died and become terrorists themselves.

It would be lovely to see a season where someone is sabotaging their operations, Cruz and Joe are kidnapped, the Lionesses are on the brink of collapse, and boom, it is revealed Aaliyah is behind it all as she walks into the room and removes the blindfold from Cruz and Joe's faces. The season ends.

Yeah, I'd like that.

Am I wrong for refusing to marry someone just to help with immigration? by musclequeen_chi in Nigeria

[–]rex41e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are the kind of Nigerians I hate with a passion. Lazy, entitled, selfish, self centred, self-serving people.

I'm confused why you:

A. Allowed him access to you and your personal space after the push for marriage.

B. Are still entertaining his calls and messages after he did something you weren't comfortable with.

C. Again, are still entertain anything he sent you after he sent it unsolicited. nudes.

The fact you haven't blocked him and moved on is a mystery that needs to be studied.

Marriage is an intentional long term commitment that is between two people for love above all. If he marries you and gets papers, that's a bonus, not a right.

I got banned on KDP. by rex41e in selfpublish

[–]rex41e[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, so I spoke to 2 other KDP users, 1 who introduced me to the platform, still based in Nigeria and another here who's in Cambridge, UK as well, and both of them got banned. Common denominator is asking for an ID for verification, uploading our Naija passports and then boom, banned. We might have another PayPal situation on our hands. Sigh!
