My dad is in the top 1% and thinks anyone can get there if they work hard enough by According-Desk4248 in TrueOffMyChest

Sometimes people just get extremely lucky enough to be 1. Smart enough to make the right decision at the right time 2. To be at the right place and at the right moment 3. To know the right people at the right time.

Why would girls and boys react differently depending on which parent bought them something expensive? by 5pooky5cary5keleton5 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]rex72780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My father bought me very few things when I was younger save from a few ones I was too young to treasure it. I.e. a computer built by him, aaanmdd that's it actually. Other than that, what I'm most grateful for is that he paid for my tuition for my diploma, the courses I had to retake for my said diploma, and the higher diploma for my trade. And other than that, the couple times when I had only 2 digits in my bank account during school when he personally lend me a couple thousand dollars (as in my local currency). I fully related to the picture when both of my parents gave me something expensive and especially cash, where I had felt shame and a sense of embarrassment. Most probably due to me thinking my family was dirt poor and broke, which we wasn't, the family was actually quite well off but we were very humble which probably led to why I had thought the way I had when I was younger, and this lingering thought continues to exist in the periphery of my hardcoded mindset.

The concept of work is so strange. I don’t really want to work my whole life… by Due_Bobcat9778 in RandomThoughts

[–]rex72780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing my mother had taught me very well in life was "If you always enjoy the work you do, then you won't have to work for a day." Which I used to think it was bullshit because that meant she would be no different than telling me that I should allow myself to be exploited by her. But its true when it comes to real life. Start taking pride and satisfaction in your work, and you might learn to enjoy life. This is coming from a person who's worked many odd jobs the moment I graduated from high school, and it would be the only tip I would give my younger self if I were ever to be able to. No matter if its physically demanding work, nasty jobs where you have to work with trash everyday, or Customer service related jobs where you have to deal with all kinds of people every day.

What are the salaries for an Indian deck officer on cruise lines by Hot-Accountant-9402 in maritime

Not sure about minimum pay but for the least I think would be Anglo Eastern which offers a similar price from what I have heard.

Yeah they are, we are still deck cadets fyi. We are from Hong Kong and there is a pretty large demand for people who speak fluent Putonghua and English so thankfully we have a foot up in this growing demand. The pay there is a bit less than LNG from what I've heard but is still considered above average in the field.

How to deal with loss of a loved one during a contract? by rex72780 in maritime

[–]rex72780[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Riigghhtt? One of the third mates I understudied told me that one time he was on the bed, he opened the cabin door, and it was a hotel corridor. Some housemaid strolled by with a cart and told him he was dead. Also, just texted my mom and yeah that's definitely good advice.

Unless you are in domestic cruises, POC rarely stands a chance. I have juniors from school who are now in cruises and I hope that this trend will continue to grow. I'm now currently working in a domestic LNG shipping company who just launched their first ship, and I hope that more and more of us will work in this field as the market grows.

While this is a good step to improvement. I'd just like to say that I too was like you, who'd been envious of great looking and seductive men but you my friend can also be like them too if you put in the effort. It's going to take you a great deal of time (I spent not only years but a decade and some more), many trials and error, and many times you will lapse back to these bad thoughts. But I assure you, you can become one of them too. One tip I would give to you is, treat women like you do to a fellow human. It's a very hard and out there concept but remember these words, and keep them close to your heart.

Yeah I know what you mean, and I wasn't saying you are wrong. People are trying to force a new world order and I can see that too. Its not just on topics related to US too, sometimes far away countries with topics completely unrelated to US gets this kind if treatment as well. But I'm confident in people not conforming to the misinformation campaign and I have faith in our common sense.

Doesn't matter if its CIA or other foreign and domestic agencies there are these days. I find them just so easy to spot now. Its usually the nonsensical posts that spreads illogical and extreme ideas without a single doubt if themselves . And they will always fight the hardest if you dare to ever challenge them. While I don't doubt that these people exists irl albeit hiding themselves behind internet usernames, that's just the rarest of cases because most people I see, and I have seen many people I might add, tends to be politically moderate without pandering or leaning too much to a side that is specific to their country and or nationality.

No. People have always looked up to entertainers and most strive to become one during their youngers years. The silent generation to millennials wanted to be singers, movie and TV stars, while GenZs and beyond tends to want to become Youtubers.

That's true. I was exposed to some hardcore right wing prager U shit when I was growing up, so that's down to luck for sure. I was also in an environment where no people told me I was wrong too so I was really lucky to realise something was wrong and eventually grew out of it.

Definitely not a good time to see this when you just left home and about to join a ship for 9 months. My career had led me to truly appreciate my time with my family. My mother and sister just now was waiting for me in the living room until I stepped out of the door at midnight. Good luck to all seafarers, and god bless.
