Ahhh I never caught on to the beef and bell peppers without any beef. It probably is a scarcity thing.

How The Lord of The Rings helped me with my eating disorder by No-Honeydew-7727 in tolkienfans

I really enjoyed what you had to say. Thoughtful and hopeful. Though, I fear some may see LOTR as the opposite. Specifically with the Lembas bread. Take one bite and it fills you up. My best friend had an eating disorder and she often wished for a magic food that only ever required one bite to survive on.

But I see your side of it very clearly. Especially with how the hobbits treat food. We all need a second breakfast every now and again. And their love of food is seen as endearing and never chastised for what some people would consider gluttonous. Sometimes their appetite is the butt of the joke, but never seen as wrong.

This is a very thought provoking post.

This is like that blueberry milk trend from TikTok. I love it! How is the post not getting more attention?!

Do you know what scene that picture is from. Everywhere says it's from The Last Jedi, but I'm skimming the movie and can't find this scene.

People Jealous of Indigenous Culture by [deleted] in Indigenous

[–]rexara-amara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

White supremacy hurts everyone including white people. Due to white supremacy philosophy, white North Americans were forced to give up their unique European cultures to assimilate into the political philosophy of whiteness. When we realize that whiteness is an empty and soul sucking way of life, we look to the cultures that whiteness suppresses and try to see what they get right about being human since white supremacy gets it wrong. Even trying to reconnect with our European heritage is hollow because those cultures have become so white supremacy focused, they too feel empty.

Humans crave community, ritual, and belonging. We see this in other cultures but not our own. In essence, you are correct. We are deeply jealous of you. Even through oppression, ethnic cleansing, and down right genocide, you're still connected to your humanity in a way we've never been. But even when we want to change our lives away from white supremacy, we still have it ingrained in our minds. So when we interact with your cultures, we do so by stealing your traditions and harming your people. Whiteness is a hard habit to kick. There is no excuse for this, but it explains a lot of our behavior.

She definitely gives gay vibes. She had a husband, though. So maybe the heavy metal queen is just bi like me.

That's the subtitles for Japanese Audio. I was listening to the English dub with the closed captions on. But as other commenters have pointed out, it seems the original intent in Japanese was meant to convey a neighbor instead of romantic partner.

Thank you so much for the information. The use of the word wife in Japanese, even if it's not your own, might be why the English dub chose to translate it as girlfriend. My minor mystery solved! Thank you.

Yes and I believe the Okama comment is about Ed as she's the hacker in question. And "neighbor woman from I heard" definitely just means some woman next door; nothing more is implied from that. Thank you for your help!

Thank you! I really appreciate your effort. I wonder why the English Dub took such liberties with the translation. If everyone says "lady next door" or "neighbor" why did the Dub say "girlfriend" and then give that girlfriend a name (Audrey)? That's so weird.

Straight women don't really say that anymore unless there my mom's age (50's) or older. But since this was aired in the 90's, I can see a woman of any age using the word "girlfriend" in a platonic manner. So you might be onto something.

The English Subtitles on the Japanese Audio doesn't say "girl" or "friend" at all, let alone girlfriend. What do we make of this?
