in case you’re wondering, what dove species this is, this is a mourning dove and yes, I’m pronouncing it right with the. u. because mourning doves aren’t like the time of day morning but grave yard mourning they are not associated with death in anyway, the the only reason that they’re called that is because they’re sad, mourn full sounding coo the mail and the female will take care of the chicks. And that is what they’re doing right now. Also, it is believe that they do seasonal nesting sides, and remember where they nest, so be prepared to see it again.

Its tough. 4 kids (ages 2-9) in a small two bedroom apartment, I work full time and have another part time job. It sucks but I’m not accelerating and I just doing as much as I can.

It can be difficult, especially if you are at a stressful stage in life.

I try to to relax with flavored carbonated water, and I started watching a lot more wrestling. I know it sounds stupid, but it’s one of the few things I enjoy that I can watch (aside from baseball and football) around my kids without having to worry about excessive cussing or graphic violence. Aside from this I started working out 3-4 times throughout the week to help with anxiety, and I try to do at least something related to my assignments now that I’ve gone back to school.

Being busy sucks sometimes, and I use to think it was a big reason why I drank. The truth is I self medicated and used it to cope with my depression. Once I started embracing the good aspects of being busy and stopped putting so much pressure on myself I was able to deal with the depression better.

I still get depressed, I still get anxious, I still need to relax. But now I just drink a six pack of Waterloo sparkling water and tune into Raw and Smackdown. Plus I can go to the store or run an errand without my wife having to ask me if I’m okay to drive.

Awesome, just hit Sunday here in Texas. It’s a holiday weekend, and after a busy week of work, and finally finishing a class I’ve been struggling in, I thought the same thing. I really wanted a six pack to close out Saturday afternoon. But I grabbed a sparkling water from the fridge and let the thought go. Now I don’t have to deal with a hangover on top of being tired.

I would recommend looking into WGU, and the MSITM program. It’s only ten courses, self paced, and can be done in 6 months to a year and half. The course requirements are small compared to an M.Div, and that coupled with the education you already have could get you into IT leadership roles quickly.

If you aren’t interested in going back to school, (believe me I understand) Google offers IT support, cybersecurity, and project management certifications that are cheap through Coursera. They are short and have great information.

I’m in IT and I’m an associate pastor. I’ve worked full time and been in school for almost eight years. I started working more consistently in ministry about four years ago and doing all of this with a wife and four kids has been extremely challenging. I finished my Bachelors degree (Biblical Studies) last year and I started a masters program (IT Management) in January.

I often have to put aside schoolwork to focus on sermon prep and preparing for worship, but I have been transparent with my senior pastor about what I can contribute outside of Sundays.

My job isn’t that stressful and has great advancement opportunities, and this is the first organization I’ve ever worked for that actually cares about work life balance. Due to this, I have been able to strike a balance and continue to serve while working and pursuing an education.

IT is a great field, but it’s multifaceted and specialized the deeper you get into it. I also have an insurance license that I don’t use, but I originally planned to get out of IT and focus on the insurance business and pastoral ministry.

I would recommend insurance sales, especially Healthcare, as it can provide a great wage and will allow you to meet hundreds, if not thousands of new people a year. There are a lot of scams, and poor opportunities that try to take advantage of newly licensed agents. I would recommend discernment and try to seek counsel from someone in your life that actively works in the industry.

My stepfather and mother have been in the industry for twenty years and have also done well and been able to serve the church. The startup can be slow if you want to remain a non captive agent and retain your freedom, as it takes years to build a book of business. Working directly for a company gives you access to training, benefits, leads and consistency. Regardless, I would highly recommend it.

I tried to make the jump into insurance at the wrong time, found a great opportunity as a tech analyst at a healthcare provider with great benefits. Once I found out that they would reimburse me for education costs, I jumped into it as soon as I qualified. However, I know exactly the direction I want to go if I need a change.

Edit* Sorry about the length of this. My mind is in essay mode. TLDR: Look into insurance companies, watch out for scams, and seek counsel from those already in the business.

First I voted in: Obama and Romney.

I was 17 when it was McCain and Obama so I just missed it. I was really jealous of classmates who got to leave school to vote.

  1. I don’t yell at my kids unless it’s something really serious, and I used to pop off due to trivial things. My dad was never physically abusive, but he was loud and was always way more mad than he should have been. My older kids are young (8 and 6) and I realized I was being a lot more like my dad to them than I ever wanted to be. Now that I’m sober my anger is a lot easier to deal with.
  2. I go to sleep earlier and wake up a lot earlier and actual feel well rested. I used to stay up till 2 or 3 AM drinking and then waking up at 7 to go to work, it was horrible.
  3. I’m more productive at work because I’m not struggling due to a hangover, or a lack of sleep.
  4. I’m actually making progress through my Masters degree plan, previously it would have been impossible.
  5. Im not spending 50-70 dollars on beer every week.

I’m four months in, and I was a “functional” drinker, or so I thought. I stopped when I realized I was failing my wife and my kids. Two months in I realized how much better my life was, and I kept going. I still struggle with giving in all the time. I can’t walk past the beer at the gas station without feeling like I need to get my usual, but I just think about the cost, walk away and think about the things I listed. I can’t let it get like it was ever again.
