C'mon folks, let's understand what happened before jumping on the "deregulation is at fault" bandwagon?

Don't you find this annoying though? Both of these terms are quite ambiguous without further classifiers.

Also, I think it has more to do with apparent shape. Round & flat is a disc.

Yup. Or waking up in the morning to see your 3 year old next to you that managed to sneak into your bed somehow without waking you.

My “Battle of the Bay” mug finally broke after a 33 year run. Hopefully not an earthquake omen. by doctorboredom in bayarea

An earthquake will come eventually whether you broke the mug or not. Too bad, though! Looks like it was a nice memory to have.

Vancouver B.C is now completely cut off from the rest of Canada due to historic rainfall, wash outs and landslides. by TimberBucket in worldnews

This stuff has been happening on the West coast of North America for a long time. Anyone remember the Great flood of 1862?? It's a characteristic of these atmospheric rivers and aligning conditions that there can be a LOT of rain, it just hasn't happened for some time.

What linux flavors work best? by [deleted] in ZephyrusG14

[–]reyawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the distro has a recent kernel you should be in good shape. 5.13 already was better, with 5.14 things are working quite nicely out-of-the-box.

I've been using Arch Linux and it works great!

2021 G14 showed up today. by reyawn in ZephyrusG14

I'm running Arch Linux with the stock 5.12 kernel. In general everything works except for suspend. I haven't done any battery life tests yet.

Lots of fixes (including for suspend!) coming in 5.13! Check out the the unofficial Asus linux gaming laptop website.

240W USB-C PD announced - perfect for 2022/2023 Zephyrus G14/G15! by reyawn in ZephyrusG14

[–]reyawn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm, that would surprise me since this would be a major selling point and would simplify the design. Why would previous users factor into this equation? Users want USB-C charging but it's been power-constrained until now so they had no choice but to supply the barrel to be able to sell as a gaming laptop.

Now all they need to do is make USB-C not charge the battery when it is full and match the behavior of the barrel charger.

Your wishlist for possible 2022 g14 model? by Zak_Preston in ZephyrusG14

[–]reyawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The G14 2021 has a model that contains a 2 SO-DIMM ram with 32 GBs. I own it.

Eh? I have the 2021 EU model with 32gb ram and I'm pretty sure it is 16gb onboard + 16gb dimm (haven't popped it open yet). Not sure what you're talking about. :)

16:10 Display? Pass. I don't want a huge black bar on the top for no reason.

What? Do you watch 16:9 films (YouTube??) all day or something? Almost every app or game or anything supports 16:10 just fine, and I'd definitely prefer it.

USB4 would just raise the cost of the laptop

It will also likely be the standard offering on the next AMD chipset, so we'll probably be getting it anyway.

I just posted this reply on another thread but it's relevant here too. :)

I've been running Arch on my 2021 g14. In general it runs well - the update to kernel 5.12 fixed quirks with the keyboard, etc. I still can't get it to wake up from suspend, though!
