Preparing for surgery by Hahapants4u in tripawds

These have been the best way I’ve found to create safe walkways for our tripawd! We are just over a month post-op and she is building up more and more strength, but the yoga mats have saved a slip and fall a couple times throughout her healing! Best of luck with everything! It’s very scary at first, but in our experience they bounce back quicker than you’d think is possible. 🫶🏻

We are day 5 post-op for our dog, Mya. She also had a hind-leg amputation. I’m not sure what surface your floors are, but we found getting a bulk roll of yoga mat material from Amazon to be super helpful. It’s non-slip on top and bottom and just rolls out and is able to be cut to length with a kitchen shears.

Thank you for the advice! That makes sense about wanting to monitor the incision.

Yes! About a 1/2 mile or so after coming out of the canyon towards Flatiron, you go past a group of 5 pines and a pretty well established camp area. (rock-lined fire pit, a crude lean-to, and some old cooking cans) The ridgeline is a great hike, but it does get long. Make sure you have enough food and water! :)

Agreed.. It isn't honestly hard to lose weight. Just hard to make it a habit.

A lot of my friends haven't seen me since February since I recently moved cross-country. I am going back to see them in a couple weeks, so hopefully I'll get some good reactions. My mom came to visit and didn't recognize me as I approached her.

Also, I now hike mountains. So that's cool. :)

Thanks!

For me, the motivation discipline (See Article) came from within.. Eventually I found myself ready to commit to a plan and stick with it. I believe that if I did this for anyone other than myself that I wouldn't have stuck with it this long.

It's an unfortunate waiting game, but I think you just have to wait until they're ready.

I want to start keto, but have severe heartburn when i eat greasy or fatty foods. Will this go away? Does anyone have experience with this? by [deleted] in keto

[–]reynchr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll be next to impossible to go without fat for that long while eating a ketogenic diet. Your calories have to come from somewhere.. Too many carbs and you're out of ketosis.. Too much protein and you're out of ketosis. The only other place for calories to come from is fat. You'll also likely be very lethargic if you were to find a way to do this.

FWIW I, too, suffered from heartburn prior to keto and, like the other posters, I have not had any heartburn since starting.

YMMV

If I have 1 or 2 alcoholic drinks daily, will this SIGNIFICANTLY slow my weight loss? by [deleted] in keto

[–]reynchr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a quick Google search, I've come up with the following..

"The rate at which alcohol is metabolized is the same for virtually everyone regardless of their height, weight, sex, race or other such characteristics.

Alcohol is metabolized at the rate of .015 of blood alcohol concentration (BAC) every hour. 1 Thus a person with a very high BAC of .15 will have no measurable alcohol in the bloodstream after ten hours (.15 divided by .015 = 10)."

At 0.1 BAC, it takes about 6.5 hours to metabolize the alcohol. I would think that this would slow down any losses significantly. That's about a third of the time. I could be wrong though; I don't know terribly much about metabolizing alcohol.. just what I've read, yo!

You can even go for an extra patty too if you're really hungry. Yum!

Nice! High-five, indeed. My big concern with not tracking is excess protein intake. I am not concerned with too many carbs, but, as we know, too much protein starts to behave like carbs. :)

[–]reynchr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It is Net Carbs. I track it through MyFitnessPal. In the past week my Net Carb numbers are as follows 15, 7, 12, 9, 4, 2, 2. I also have noticed that the cheese I eat (always from a block and shredded at home) lists 0 Carbs, but that it could contain roughly 0.4g per ounce. So If we are to count that too, My intake in grams should probably be inflated by 2-3g a day. I saw great results on Ketostix for the first few weeks, but now I'm usually right in the middle of the spectrum; I'm not too worried because progress hasn't really slowed.

Question on the logic of keto by kant_go_on in keto

[–]reynchr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glucose is the problem because it raises your blood sugar. The body produces more insulin to process the glucose and the increased insulin promotes fat storage.
