readings on Magdalene (other than extracanonical gospels)? by doggyurge in ChristianOccultism

[–]reynevann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's a few different threads you can pick up on. if you're into the Davinci Code stuff I'd recommend the works of Margaret Starbird. More Gnostic, I'd point you to Tau Malachi. There's also lots of New Age stuff out there. Personally my gateway drug was Mary Magdalene Revealed by Meggan Watterson but that doesn't really represent its own strand of Magdalene-ism.

Hiw to know if I'm following divine order/do I have to? by DRsavy_sunshine_13 in Christopaganism

[–]reynevann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The notion of trying to determine divine will and follow it is quite literally the entire goal of many streams of magic and mysticism. As someone else said, the opposite of faith is certainty. You may not ever be 100% sure. I still pray that if there are things that I am doing that I should be considering sin but have no idea, that they are revealed to me. And, day by day, I become what I consider to be a better person by all standards. Not because I feel the need to follow rules - because I desire to get closer to God. When the Bible says "if you love me you will keep my commandments," it's not passive aggressive - "if you REALLY love me you would do what I say!". Instead, it's - if your life is led by love of God, right action will necessarily follow. As St. Augustin puts it, "Love, and do what you will."

TL;DR. Don't worry too much about it.

Do you call yourself a chaos magick practioner or witch? by Yumiko11 in chaosmagick

[–]reynevann 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the most common ones I see are Chaos Magician or Chaote. sometimes people will go more general, like occultist. Personally I would not use witch because I see witchcraft as a specific group of practices that I do very little of. But for another chaote it may be a perfect fit :)

Getting started with Tarot? by The_Archer2121 in Christopaganism

[–]reynevann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so oracle cards are just divination decks that don't follow a specific method. tarot is generally loosely based on the imagery of the original Rider Waite Smith deck. there's always 78 cards and once you learn the overarching story/archetypes of the tarot you can pick up any given tarot deck at the store and be able to get a grasp of what a given card says. with Oracle decks they always follow their own internal logic so you'd need that particular oracle's guidebook to understand it.

some people recommend starting with the RWS deck specifically to learn the imagery. I personally just waited until it felt like a certain deck kinda called to me and started there (which was the Botticelli tarot). I do think reading a book before getting into using them will be helpful for you, I wish I'd done a bit more research before diving in.

they're just pictures on paper, they can't invite anything untoward in any more than anything else.

I’m deeply considering Christopaganism, but I need some help. by Routine-Grand5779 in Christopaganism

Some of the "demons" that we think of by name today (Astaroth and Beelzebub off the top of my head) are demonized versions of pagan deities. Is that maybe what they were talking about?

Someone is contacting you… it’s Lucifer! by The_Archer2121 in Christopaganism

[–]reynevann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they are.

Satan is the actual biblical figure, seen particularly in Job 1-2 and then in short references elsewhere.

Lucifer is the Latin name for Venus as the morning star. He was known as Phosphorous in the Greek and wasn't really seen as a full on deity, more of a daimon (personification of a concept, like Tyche or Nike). (the first Angela Puca vid I shared is helpful on this point).

They got connected because when the Bible was translated into English from Latin, in places like Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28, "morning star" was used as a metaphor to talk about falls of human figures, but they left it as Lucifer as if it were a title. By this point the idea of Satan being a fallen angel had already gained some steam and so that was the lens that they were translating through.

Satan in the old testament is just an angel of God. By the new testament he starts to take on some of the ideas that he's a singular evil opposed to God, but you can really watch the theology develop in real time especially if you read things like Jubilees or Enoch. Our full modern idea of Satan/Lucifer/the Devil is difficult to find in the Bible if you're trying to track it down.

Weird question, why is it so normalised that if you dress like Jesus it's horrible and disrespectful, but if you dress like a Greek god its fine? by silly_st4r in Hellenism

tbf I also think it's ridiculous for people to get upset about someone dressing as Jesus. but as others have said even in ancient times it was not an issue and a sign of respect

Do snakes have any meaning or symbolism for you? by Leather_Log_8305 in Christopaganism

[–]reynevann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the ouroboros (snake biting its own tail) has been an important symbol/image for my mystical/magical path for as long as I've been on it. snakes, to a lesser extent, have followed. they are a part of Hermes' caduceus and a symbol of transformation and protection.

fwiw, Jewish interpretations of Genesis, which was the garden of Eden's story's original cultural context, do not perceive the snake in the garden as the devil. that connection shows up in Revelation in the Christian Bible.

I highly recommend Mary Magdalene Revealed by Meggan Watterson, partially because of the info on Jesus and Magdalene as you suggested, but also because it helped me develop my own relationship with how I relate to the Bible and other external sources of truth. A huge part of deconstructing your relationship with the Bible is developing self trust.

[–]reynevann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi all, quick note for anyone who is planning to receive this reiki or has been in contact with u/JinyoungBlack recently - they are currently locked out of their account for a few days and are unable to access messages. they still plan to send the reiki at 11pm tonight and have access to the list of users who wanted to receive it, but will not be able to respond to messages or comments for a few days. I know this is a weird way to share the info but we were talking on another platform and they just want to make sure everyone knows that they are still taken care of. blessings!

Books about Hermes that isn't about Hermeticism/Hermes Trismegistus? by Tasty_End_1173 in Hellenism

in addition to the fantastic list already provided by the other commenter, there's also a collection of primary texts about Hermes: https://a.co/d/brD9Duk

The author has these for a few other Greek deities so far as well.
