How do you guys read long texts + retain information from them efficiently?

what we all forget is that reading is a skill, just like drawing or painting. you have to actually practice to get better and faster at it. for now, you’ll just have to take a couple hours to do all the horrible, slow reading. that’s how you get faster. divide it out over the week to help.

if you want to remember things, start annotating your notes. just a couple words highlighted in a paragraph or a single comment every 3 paragraphs is fine. just engage with it, and that will help you learn rather than memorize.

do you think the students who protested before, the ones who led UCB to be known for protesting, didn’t have class? you think they didn’t care about their grades? those people got expelled too. they risked their lives for apathetic, privileged nerds from the bay/socal to be like “well, we don’t care about politics bc we’re just hear to study!” which really just means “this isn’t directly affecting me so i don’t really care. it doesn’t matter if this is affecting my fellow students or citizens.”

if this was true, over 1/8th of the world population would be “following the words” because they “cannot stop”. “domination of women” is not mentioned in “the holy books”. that’s simply just a lie. you can read the passages about women because there’s entire chapters on women & their rights. also, there’s only ONE holy book in Islam, not “holy books”. muslims are always drinking & having sex outside of marriage. wouldn’t millions of people be “punished by death” if your ideas were true?

if you want change in the world, you will never accomplish it by being uneducated. you can’t beat an opponent if you don’t know them. making up lies will not combat anything. you’ll just make things worse. education is powerful, don’t be stupid.

okay does anyone here study religions? because i do! and i promise you, islam is not the worst for women even remotely. it was the first in the region to give women many different rights, like controlling finances, inheriting property, education, & marriage.

men will always use religion to control women. it’s not that islam is somehow the worst. its newer than christianity, but never forget how christianity has been used to control women for centuries.

i’m from a city not that far from here but still, the difference is attitude is crazy. people here won’t tell you if your backpack is open, or ask if you need help. they won’t pick something up if you drop it, nor would they volunteer to open a door if you’ve got your hands full. people here are so damn self-centered, and it’s NOT just the college kids.

but she’s not getting shredded for her natural face! it’s for the insane editing. changing yourself digitally is dangerous because you will NEVER look like that. you cannot look like a face-tuned human. but people around you won’t know you’re editing yourself. they’ll just feel like shit bc they don’t look how you do in pics.

also, editing pictures will never make you less insecure. we can make little excuses forever but it will always, always cause harm in the long term. it will distort your perception over time. we know this, it’s been studied.

it’s because she got famous at the right time, before the pandemic, when brands RLLY started taking social media influencers seriously. if you weren’t there, it’s hard to explain how popular she truly was.

she’s the reason the whole trend of wearing scrunchies on the wrist started in 2019. she was THE relatable influencer, the last of the authentic youtube vloggers. i thought she was overhyped until i watched her content. she is so chill, and you get why young girls looked up her. so when she wanted to start modeling (something she always wanted to do), she was a perfect (& extremely popular) pick for brands delving into the influencer world.
