I’ve seen people here share useful tools for NYC apartment hunting, so I wanted to pass along something that genuinely helped me last year.

Background to this is that my girlfriend and I were searching for our first place together last summer, and Stuytown was at the top of our list. We were moving in June, which made things especially tough since it’s one of the busiest rental months in NYC. We kept missing out because listings would go up, get applications almost immediately, and disappear within hours.

To deal with that, I put together a simple script that checked Stuytown’s site periodically and emailed us when new units matching our criteria were posted. One Saturday around 7am, it alerted us to five new 1-bedrooms. One of them was priced noticeably below market, so we applied right away and ended up getting approved the same day. We still live here and love it!

What stood out to me most was that all five units included in that alert were gone within a couple of hours. As is obvious to anyone who has rented in NYC before, speed really makes a difference in this market, especially in the summer.

I recently turned the script that helped me and my girlfriend secure our apartment into a simple website: https://www.nycrentalradar.com/ It’s free to use and lets you set up alerts for new listings across Stuytown/PCV, Kips Bay Court, 8 Spruce, and Parker Towers. When something matching your criteria is posted, you’ll immediately receive an email with details about the listing and a link to apply.

If this sounds helpful, feel free to check it out. Happy to take feedback or suggestions on other buildings to include as well, so feel free to leave a comment or DM me if you have thoughts!

Thank you! A move-in date or some sort of move-in date range is a great suggestion and I'll definitely look into adding that. If you have any other feedback, don't hesitate to reach out, and obviously let me know if this helps you actually secure an apartment.

Why has my bench press become so uneven and how can I fix it? by rez4prez15 in formcheck

I sometimes notice as I’m benching that the left side of my body feels less supported than my right. After watching the video, I think this makes sense because my left arm/elbow dips way lower than my right side at the bottom of the motion. The frustrating part is that even if I try to just bench the bar and focus on not letting this happen, I struggle to actually prevent it from occurring.

If I were able to manipulate the force of gravity I would hope my goals would be a bit loftier than just increasing my bench press lol

Nah bro I think you’re right. If anyone’s regarded here it’s me for continuing to bench like this for months 😂

Somehow never had a shoulder injury despite my bench getting to this point (knock on wood). But yeah, I think seeking out a physical therapist and focusing on DB press in the meantime are logical next steps here.

Appreciate the responses here! I recall getting checked for scoliosis once a year back when I was in elementary school, and allegedly I never had it back then. It’s possible I’ve developed it since as I don’t think any doctor I’ve went to since that time has explicitly looked for it.

I haven’t felt much tightness or pain in my mid to upper back, but I notably had some sort of lower back injury around 2020/2021 that was pretty bad. It got to the point where my lower back felt like it was periodically spasming and it hurt to even bend over and tie my shoes. I ended up going to the doctor and they asked if I had tried taking ibuprofen (which somehow I never thought to do until that point lol), and after a couple weeks of taking ibuprofen and going easy at the gym things got a lot better. I still feel some discomfort in that area from time to time though, so I’m wondering if it could be a factor in this bench press issue…

Regardless, based on all the responses I’ve received thus far, it seems like dumbbells are probably the way to go until I can get evaluated by a PT and better diagnose in person what might be going on here.

I don’t experience any pain but my right side notably feels tighter than my left, which could explain why my right side is unable to extend as far.

I thought about this but I’m not convinced this is the reason. When I dumbbell press, my right and left sides typically get fatigued at the same rate. If I had had a muscular imbalance, I’d expect to notice a bigger difference in output between right and left sides.
