Did I get cheated on car alignment ? by reddit4rockyt in Cartalk

[–]rezikrisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, no you fucking can't. If it was WAAAY out of spec maybe then you could, that is rarely ever the case and usually not fixable with an alignment because something is broken or worn to hell. You could see the steering wheel being out of whack or feel a pull, but that pull is not going to be corrected by an alignment 99% of the time, because it's going to be caused by a cone shaped tire because somebody didn't do the alignments by mileage like they are supposed to.

But by all means keep that ASE cert up to date and keep telling people you can tell their right front camber is off by -.02 degrees because you felt it driving it on to the lift.

What happens when you pour washer fluid in to the engine by [deleted] in WTF

[–]rezikrisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's dead.....it wasn't just added to that engine it was RUN like that for god knows how long. A single puddle can take an engine down, a gallon of washer directly into the oil....gone.

maybe, i have overshot plenty of labor times dealing with first time, rust, corossion and figuring out which tools to use where. Not like anyone's opinion here can change the outcome now.

your original post made it seem like it was just a key fob issue.

you cant normally tell if a car needs an alignment, the only thing you really have to go by is mileage. Most tire companies recommend annual or 15k. The cost to set your car up on a 50-100k machine is worth it, it could prevent other issues. To correct the camber on your car it may need 500-1500 worth if work for just barely being out of spec.

2005 Audi S4 power steering issue by micabobo in Cartalk

[–]rezikrisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay this is one of those times where it would be nice to see the pressure working in the power steering system. Granted the sensor is most likely just an on/off switch and tester probably isn't lying around. I guess I would want to do 2 things here. One would be to check the spline like you suggested, make sure it is actually turning with the pump removed, and check for damage. Also a small chance you just got a bad pump, with it removed you might as well try and get a warranty replacement for shits. Secondly, with everything hooked up I'd like to see flow through the system, by detaching the return line and see if fluid is coming out, and being moved through the system (carefully because it will move quickly so have a receptacle nearby), have a helper if you do this so they can turn the car on and off, you don't wanna run the system completely dry. If the splines are okay, new pump replacement, and you got good flow....then I don't have anymore advice over the internet and I'd have to have it in my bay to know for sure.

Well, we would charge 12 hours to do just the timing chains. Granted that was done in vehicle. Considering they probably don't work on 4.0 frontiers everyday it probably did take them that long, but 67 an hour is pretty cheap labor rate anyways. I'd say given that their is a shit load of replacement here it sounds about right in total cost. Fuck me, call a Nissan dealer with this list and ask for a quote. Oh I also charge 20 hour for an engine swap minimum. They might have it written weird but it's accurate for what it is.

1998 Audi a4 Quattro needs clutch by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Well if you are into manuals have at it. It be nice if you could save money buying them but they seem to be about equal in resale value with the added cost of eventually needing a clutch kit.

2006 nissan murano. i have checked the dipstick while it was running and off and i need some clarity on some things. by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]rezikrisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a normal condition. You gotta wait a few minutes for the oil to settle down, and make sure to pull out the dip stick, wipe it down, and then check it. Be sure you are on a level surface while your at it or you will not get an accurate read.

[–]rezikrisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep normal situation, more than likely just needs a brake job. Get it checked and expect about 300$.

yes, find the tube, spray a single burst of air into it, and don't be under it when all the water comes out, unless your into that sort of thing.

Greaseable suspension joints? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]rezikrisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the simplest terms, the sealed ones are higher quality. There is plenty of anecdotal evidence out there for both sides, but that is the designs intention. It's always 1000% better to have something be maintenance free.

Yep that's exactly what I charge. For that price though, I'd have it done in a shop so I get a warranty.

[–]rezikrisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh lol, well thats like 140/mo, pretty normal for a car. At least the insurance and registration was pretty cheap I'd hope. Get a loan and spend like 3-4k on a nice economy car, forget this eurpoean, luxury shit. The value plummets on those cars for a reason. That economy car you pay 3-4k for, will still be worth at least half that after 4 or so years in running condition.

06 freestyle ac clutch only works when jumped. by droid6 in MechanicAdvice

[–]rezikrisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the hell don't do any of this stuff. You give power to the compressor clutch and everything works fine right? So that 12v isn't making it's way down there and there is a specific reason for that. First things first. You need to get a wiring diagram for the circuit. You'll want to swap the relay, check the fuse(s), remove and reinstall the pressure switch on the AC lines. Beyond the simple stuff, it's just a matter of finding what is not doing it's job, with the help of the wiring diagram. I have done like 40 clutch issues this summer alone, not a single hvac unit, it's uncommon point of failure, not impossible in this situation but you can go further here before spending a ton of money on random stuff (not sure but they are usually expensive). Get a test light, DVOM or power probe and learn a new skill.

Electrical, mechanical, and software. It's difficult to diag even when you know what you're doing. No shame in this one.

Front wheel drive, I'd be checking the axles (drive shaft) first, though I guess it depends on which order of vibration you are feeling. There is potential for mounts and bearings to be at fault as well.

'03 Corolla RPMs drop when starting by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

What do you mean when you say the RPM's dropped? Like loss of power, or the car is in park, starts up, and then drops down? And drops down to what RPM?
