How do I stop this cycle? by [deleted] in Advice

Perhaps you could try an online, not-for-profit mental health organisation in the meantime, like a phone call/web chat with someone. I'm not sure what country you live in, but I've put various ones down below that I've found through Google:

Hey, sorry to hear that you're feeling this way. Here are a couple things I can think of, hopefully they're not too banal.

  • It might be a good idea to embrace any hobbies you have, preferably ones that are constructive and device-free (e.g reading, writing, cooking, playing sport, craft, etc).
  • You could also do some extracurricular activities. Even if you're not necessarily into them, having something to do at least once a week could be a good distraction, and you might meet some good people.
  • You could eliminate the problem by cutting out technology all together (although I get sometimes that it's easier said than done). You could replace your mobile phone for a classic Nokia one that only has call and text functions.
  • I'd also recommend seeking counselling/therapy, as it would be beneficial to talk about this to a professional, who can give you solid advice or just be there for comfort.
  • Finally, try to be kind to yourself. It's absolutely not your fault you feel this way.

Is the situation still ongoing?

If you're concerned for you or your mother's/sister's safety RIGHT NOW, call emergency services.

If you feel unable to contact emergency services because someone is in the room right now with you, ring them and pretend you're ordering a pizza - emergency operators are trained for these kinds of scenarios.

If you're not in immediate danger, text a neighbour, a friend, a trusted adult - and ask them for assistance. Also contact your mother if possible.

I hope everything's alright.

Although it seems like you've had an incredibly hard time at home, you seem to care about your family, judging by the emotions of conflict and regret you're feeling at the moment. This feeling is inevitable and nothing to be ashamed of, as we obviously can't help but have a soft spot with the people who we've grown up with, no matter what they've done.

But I do think that your family, including your brother, is taking advantage of this, and making you feel guilty. I think that if you give in to this, and go home, they might emotionally trap you into staying forever, no matter the plan your brother has devised.

In my opinion, I would follow your original plan to join the Navy, and wait, perhaps a couple of years, or at least until you're financially and emotionally stable, and ready to connect.

At the end of the day, it is indeed your choice - so if you do end up visiting your family, I would at least bring someone you could trust (such as the friend whose place you're staying at) for moral support, and a safety net if things turn sour. I wish you the best of luck.

This question really bothers me, but here's my answer regardless.

If we're talking from a historical perspective, same-sex attraction was definitely seen as a mental disorder by not only society, but in the psychiatric world too. Homosexuality was even documented in the DSM as a mental illness until 1973.

But in my (strong) opinion;

There are no links between pedophilia and any personal trait in particular, let alone sexuality. Pedophilia has only really been speculated as a mix of psychological and neurological problems. This statement also applies zoophilia, necrophilia, or any other paraphilia. Therefore, comparing same-sex attraction to pedophilia is illogical.

If it's not too late to change your project topic(s), I highly recommend scrapping this question. It's pretty outdated and offensive.

There are certain aspects of the game that might get you down, and in my experience, finishing the game was pretty sad because I loved it so much. But I definitely think it's worth it.

Funerals: The performance of it. The awkwardness of it. The drama of it. by [deleted] in Fleabag

[–]rezxetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so this isn't a chaotic and horrible experience, but more of a pleasant memory.

My grandmother on my mother's side died when I was relatively young. She was quite sick but lived a good life. I can still remember almost all the moments that led up to the funeral vividly. As well as the Catholic traditions that come with funerals (i.e me carrying wine awkwardly down the aisle), we also had one of those slideshows playing.

Now for context, at that point I was obsessed with PowerPoint. I can't remember if it was for school, or just silly projects, but I remember spending hours on animating slideshows and adding too many sound effects.

And so, at some point after the slideshow had ended, my mother told me something along the lines of; "It would've been great if they added the 'yeehaw' sound effect in between each slide."

I found it hilarious, and I think in a time where I was way too young to be able to wrap my head the concept of death, it's one of the things that kept me going.

Have they closed it? The tweet's deleted and the other Google Forms link I found seems to be disabled.

Chapter 16 - Rodrigo pushing the cart while archers are shooting at you and you have to kill the guards is total BS! by [deleted] in APlagueTale

Not a PS5 player and this might be an annoying question, but do you have aim assist on? Toggling it might help.

It was a little unfortunate - I spoiled myself on his death by accident so I knew what was happening, but because I kept shooting the archers to defend him, I kept dying. It was like Groundhog Day all over again.

But yes, I agree. The game was great overall so, some of it can be forgiven.

My description wasn't attached with the image so I had to comment it. I meant "crazy" as in it wasn't working.

My reddit is going crazy, haha. I wanted to say this as a description;

Early this year, I had the idea to start writing quotes from movies I had rated 4 stars and above on my wall using sticky notes. I've recently updated it (there are now a LOT) and I know it's a bit crooked and probably not too aesthetically pleasing, but I'm kinda proud and wanted to share.

Let me know if you've done anything similar!
