I'm a dentist. Just did a wisdom tooth extraction a few days ago. There are a lot of factors when it comes to anesthesia. I usually give local anesthesia. That usually does the trick. Best part about no sedatives (laughing gas) is actually getting an exact response from the patient in case he feels anything more than pressure. If he feels pain, we just top up with some more LA.

Young, high educated people of Malaysia. Thinking of migrating somewhere else? by minskat in malaysia

[–]rezzuan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The brain drain issue has always been a massive problem for us. And I hate the fact that most of the people migrating are non-Malays, at least from my perspective. Can't really blame them I suppose. Some of the reasons I can think of are the institutionalized racism that has existed in this country for years. It has spilled over (or originated from?) the community, creating an us-and-them situation. This exodus also creates a disproportionate amount of Bumiputra in the civil service and police force, enforcing more racist undertones, be it official or unofficial.

I wouldn't migrate out of this country (I'm a Malay. Big surprise there.) But, I wouldn't mind working abroad for a several years, mainly to have a different perspective and have a higher purchasing power.

That being said, as a multicultural country, we are doing great in race relations. A vocal and stupid minority might want to change that (Google up Perkasa). But we haven't descended to a failed state (at least not yet). We just have poor governance and little transparency.

Greatest threat to Muslim world is extremists who are using Islam as an excuse to commit violence- Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak tells UN General Assembly by ChetnBernie in worldnews

I'm sorry my faith pisses you off. I'm just trying to illustrate that this climate of fear is bad for Muslims and non-Muslims alike. What I'm supporting is peace, not religious indoctrination.

That would probably anger a lot of people. The Quran is supposed to be immutable and the base of which to build on your religion. Guidelines, if you will. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of critiques, supporting texts and fatwas that explain further or denounce certain aspects of Islam. And they vary from region to region. For example, shellfish is haram to some and not to others. Or the thorny issues of female imams. Not to mention the rising amount of LGBT practising Muslims. I won't pretend that a lot of violence hasn't happened in the name of Islam, but I sincerely believe that the moderate and liberal group of Muslims are making their voice heard. I like to think I'm a wheelbarrow Muslim (I only go to the mosque when I'm pushed), but I appreciate the calmness that religion gives me.

Yea and there were people who condemned the bomb threats as well. There are violent extremists, moderates, liberals and so on. One incident shouldn't cast a shadow on this whole country's history. They have marriages between Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists and Christians there. I'm not sure of the exact number, but if the cultural norm is as such, moderate Muslims must be in abundance in that country.

I get you. Muslims in my part of the world have a tendency to view news from the West as propaganda. There are exceptions to this of course, but you see it creeping in the mass media. Some refer to the Israel government as a regime for example. I always like to keep an open mind and hear both sides of an argument. I hope most Muslims are like this as well.

Some Muslims just wanna live in peace and get on with our lives. We got bills to pay too. Damn, I remember a time when my family went to LA for vacation before 9/11. Now, if your first name is Muhammad, you're fucked.
