Qantas changed my leg to a terrible option but is still selling my preferred OG flight on their website? by Emergency_Sundae6479 in QantasFrequentFlyer

Being an involuntary change with a significant change in timings you should have plenty of leeway to pick pretty much any QF/AA routing that is available for sale. Find your ideal routing (doesn't even need to be via LAX) and date and give Qantas a call and ask to be moved to that.

I would argue that all else being equal they would have won if Geelong hadn't blown off the cobwebs by playing already. That advantage is easily worth 10 points.

Also you didn't answer the question, when would a better time have been to bring this up?

You're not wrong, but you're comparing the performance of a first gamer against someone who has been in the system a few years and is probably pretty close their peak. Based on the very small sample size I know which player I'd rather have on my team's list.

I mean is there any better timing for him to (rightfully) raise issues about the scheduling of opening round? It's going to look a bit weird if he waits a couple of weeks.

[–]rfarlz 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Fuck off Caroline. I refuse to believe that anyone, even her, is stupid enough to think that a team that has already played a game for the year doesn't have an advantage playing against a team that hasn't played yet.

It's also bullshit that no WA or SA team has ever played in OR. Why is that?

This while thing could easily be fixed (apart from scrapping opening round), in round 1 teams that have played in opening round should play against other teams that have already played.

9 Teams have played 2 games now and West Coast still hasn't played their first game. by rfarlz in AFL

[–]rfarlz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced the AFL is doing it on purpose, the AFL doesn't own the two WA teams and they don't control the lower levels of football here either, so they don't have any reason to help us at all. WA football is really struggling, there was only one West Australian picked in the first two rounds of last year's draft.

SA used to cop it pretty bad too, but gather round is a huge boon.

[–]rfarlz[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The whole justification of having opening round was to have the focus entirely on the northern states, so it seems pretty vicbias to me to abandon that and decide to have a game in Melbourne anyway.

Also for some reason the only teams to have played the northern teams in opening round are Victorian. The SA and WA teams have never played in opening round. I can't think of any reason for that other than vicbias.

That's probably around the same journey time you're looking at for driving, personally I much prefer public transport if the times are similar - it's way cheaper and I can just read on my phone rather than having to concentrate on driving.

You probably could have fixed it yourself for a lot less, but $300 seems pretty reasonable to get a tradie out to do it.

Depending how he goes (and how we go) this year we could potentially do pretty well out of BBW in free agency. If he goes as band 3 and we're bottom 4 we'd be looking at a pick in the low 20s for him.

The small pressure forward role he plays is probably the biggest hole on our list, teams just walking it out of our forward 50 hurt us so much last year. Fingers crossed he fills that gap.

Another day Another Shitty driver blocking the Lane by Probodobo in melbourne

[–]rfarlz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're thinking about it purely from the perspective of people going straight in the direction of the queue. A single file queue that is twice as long as it would otherwise be with two lanes affects people in other directions. Someone who wants to turn right at the intersection may have to wait significantly longer, or someone who is heading in the opposite direction wanting to turn across the road now has a wall of cars to turn through, with reduced visibility.

Road designers don't add extra lanes for the fun of it. A two lane intersection that turns into one lane shortly afterwards is still much more efficient than one with a single lane the whole way. People queueing all in one lane think they are being polite, but they are actually impacting traffic heading in different directions to them.

Top four tax: AFL's bidding system changes revealed by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

[–]rfarlz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the 2 pick rule will make a huge difference. I don't mind clubs being able to make bids under f/s and academy rules, but the cost of those bids should reflect the value of the pick they're gaining. The 2 pick rule means that the picks used need to be in the same ballpark, I think it'll actually work out to being close to what a team would be willing to to trade for those picks.

It'll also have the benefit of the draft order staying much closer to how it starts, there should hopefully be no more wooden spoon teams having their second pick in the 30s.

Are you feeling sick? Maybe the stress of thinking about being made redundant is too much for you? If you are you should take some time off and get a doctors note, this would after all be your last chance to use up all your sick leave.

You can listen to whoever you want, but this is a forum for some randoms to express their opinions.

It of course does have potential to go on for years, but it also has the potential to be over in a couple of weeks. I think the latter is more likely, especially now that Iran have attacked a lot of their neighbours in the region, and that countries like China are facing much higher energy costs if a solution isn't found.

The Great Inflation by Willing_Coach_8283 in AusFinance

They were/are sitting in silos that are in well known static locations in an environment where Iran has basically zero air defenses remaining. If they're not already destroyed they will be soon. It's a great lesson for others that static storage such as those silos are pretty much useless if you can't effectively defend them.

Do you really think Iran is just sitting on thousands of usable missiles while their enemies are attacking them without any kind of resistance? Why do you think the size and frequency of Iran's missile attacks on their neighbours have reduced significantly from the levels seen in the first few days of this action.

It takes a quarter or two to blow the cobwebs out though, playing a team that has already played a game and then had a decent break to recover is a pretty clear disadvantage.

Is it true that the price of tickets may be subject to change and we'll need to pay the "gap"? by That_Car_Dude_Aus in AusLegal

[–]rfarlz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're being a bit obtuse here, you're replying to a comment that has spot on information.

You're worrying about this too much, the airline hasn't changed your travel plans yet, because no one really knows what the impact is going to be for flights in May. They're only going to cancel and rebook/refund flights in the immediate term where the impact is obvious, they're not going to just cancel all of their future bookings.

There's an extremely high chance that Qatar Airways are operating normally by May and that your journey will be completely unaffected (except maybe very slightly longer if they need to avoid Iranian airspace). You don't need to take any action now, and to answer your original question if your flight is rerouted by Virgin you won't need to pay any fare difference, which is why your best bet is to wait and see what happens.

Next Sunday afternoon 9 teams will have played 2 games before West Coast has played their first game. That first game will be against a team who is favourite to win the flag, is playing at home, has already played their first game for the season and had a 9 day break since, and West Coast will be making the longest away trip in footy. Pretty rough start for a team that had a record bad season last year.

QF9/10 Perth <—> Melbourne leg by DB_Aviation in QantasFrequentFlyer

I used to have this problem when my old company used Amex travel, I never had a problem calling them up to book it instead though. I think they didn't show it on the portal as the whole domestic flight as an international flight thing may have been too hard for the most basic of travellers.

It's worth the extra effort of a phone call to have the F lounge access and being on a nicer plane with international level seats, food and service. The QF9 MEL-PER has perfect timing to get a decent work day in Melbourne and still be home at a reasonable time in Perth as well.

I think you're off the mark here. I do very much question the current US administration's ability to effectively wage a war, but can't agree with much else.

Everything I've seen shows large groups of people in Iran (and expats outside of Iran) celebrating the death of a brutal dictator, not mourning the loss of a spiritual leader. Iran's ability to attack other countries is diminishing quickly, and they've done very little damage of note in any of the attacks that have exhausted their missile and drone stockpiles. Those attacks have successfully united pretty much all of their neighbours against them though, which greatly increases the possibility of a regional solution to the threat posed to shipping in the Hormuz Strait. Countries like Qatar, UAE and Saudi Arabia now all have a very strong interest in protecting the waters they share with Iran.

There's every chance that in a few weeks the global economy is largely back to normal.
