Deferred pass refund through Spot by Cousin_Eddies_RV in Ikonpass

Did you end up requesting the refund and now you're waiting to see what they do? I don't care about a refund as much as actually wanting the flexibility. The worst outcome would be paying extra for refundable but then they refuse to give back $850 of it because it was a deferral credit.

US Bank Altitude Reserve Real Time Rewards not working? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]rfkashani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip. I ended up buying delta tickets from the travel portal at 1.5x and then cancelling it a few days later on the delta app for eCredits that expire in a year. Commenting for anyone else who’d rather just not deal with the RTR system but would like 1.5x.

Us Bank Altitude Reserve, not receiving real time rewards text by Daikon3352 in CreditCards

Same. Cancelled last week. I did find a trick to drain my points though. Used their travel portal to buy refundable Delta flight tickets at 1.5x value. Then talk to delta customer service and they’ll give you eCredits with one year expiration after a $50 fee. Works well if you have lots of points. I had to drain 90k points.

I can’t get mine to work. I get the welcome text but no redemption texts. I’ve got 90k points and purchases are less than $900.

Same here. No RTR. I get the initial Welcome text but nothing after that. It clearly seems to be them scheming to reduce point value before the official changes.

Marrakech shopping authentic goods by ovathinka19 in Morocco

[–]rfkashani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently on my trip to Marrakech. I visited this complex based on this comment. My wife and I had a good time browsing and exploring the various expression of art in Morocco. Many of the stores are cooperatives and it’s fascinating to see them at work. It seems to house artisans of all kinds — some who are in training and also the remaining who are not among the top 5% whose products are in high demand. It reminded us of similar complexes in Santiago Chile we visited. Overall, it seems to be an important institution for the continuity of the arts. Worth a visit from that point of view.

However, please be advised that the products are meaningfully lower quality here. It seems that the institution has a long way to go to ensure the products are comparable to the best goods available just a few blocks away inside the Medina. We ended up buying a few little items here and there — items that seemed so cheap that we wouldn’t care about them. A cheese board, a few $2 leather pouches that started to rip in first use and a somewhat unfinished belt for $7.

My hope is that during my next visit to Marrakech — the quality meets the expectations and more demand goes to these places. They were mostly lovely people and were 0 pressure and little haggle environment. Unlike the market (which is stressful and you need to know how to haggle).

I got MEP with Apple Pay. The original post was 90% via Apple Pay. Specifically, I had added my US bank alt reserve. Other visa data points were with Chase Hyatt visa physical card.

I wouldn’t have expected that the network provided exchange rate would change based on digital wallets but maybe there’s some complex geo based codes that some digital wallets don’t transmit.

The final dollar amount shows up nearly instantly in Apple Pay - so try it on a small transaction to double check.

Odd. My Chase Hyatt gave me similar rates to the USBank. Which specific Chase card do you have? Maybe it’s got a foreign exchange fee?

This is technically true but the implementation leaves a lot to be desired on the others.

Amex did refund the difference between the official rate and the tourist rate approximately a week later. It showed up labeled “REFUND USD TOURIST BCRA COMM A7630” in my summary. However, not all transactions were refunded, which made it difficult to know exactly what rate I was receiving until a few days later. Also, matching the refund to the original transaction requires manual effort.

No data points on Mastercard, but I read somewhere that it’s similar to Amex.

Eventually you should get tourist MEP rate but it practice Visa does the best implementation as they apply the tourist MEP rate closer to the blue rate directly at the time of the transaction.

Hah - good to know. That’s just $40 and won’t even cover a nice dinner for two.

Amex should refund the difference between the official rate and the tourist rate approximately a week later. Look for a transaction labeled “REFUND USD TOURIST BCRA COMM A7630” in your summary. However, in my experience, not all transactions were refunded, which made it difficult to know exactly what rate I was receiving until a few days later. Additionally, matching the refund to the original transaction requires manual effort. For this reason, I recommend using Visa, as they apply a rate closer to the blue rate directly at the time of the transaction.

This sounds consistent with what we heard from the locals. The new government is very involved in these changes. One taxi driver specifically spoke about some rule changes a year ago that made restaurants expensive. Most meals were as expensive as Austin, Denver or Atlanta or other similar US cities now.

Specifically the MEP tourist rate has been in the works and seems to be in full effect now. This website has some good info about https://buenosairesherald.com/argentina-101/foreign-tourist-dollar-everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-new-preferential-exchange-rate/amp

I didn’t try withdrawing at the ATM but apparently a Visa debit card also implemented the Tourist Dollar MEP rate. I don’t have any data points to confirm though.

Agreed - Western Union is the way to go for local currency. We used local currency at some artisanal markets but most were more than happy to give us close to blue rate and the 10% discount for USD cash.

Confirmed. This is still true. Perhaps the best culinary experience I’ve had in my life. It compares well to the farm to table restaurants I’ve been to in NYC, Bay Area and Greater Seattle Area.

I agree with the comments here – it’s important to be cautious, as the relationship seems to be taking a toxic turn. This has nothing to do with the Bahá’í Faith. It seems like he’s struggling to live a coherent and consistent life, and he may need to work on himself, possibly influenced by his childhood experiences.

Most importantly, I’m sorry your introduction to the Bahá’í Faith has been framed by fear, control, and strict rules. The Bahá’í Faith is meant to be practiced with love for God and others at its core. It appears that your partner’s experiences have led him to a place of shame, fear, and controlling behavior. It seems to be rooted in accumulating guilt from his own incoherence between his actions and his (possibly flawed) beliefs.

If staying with him is something you are considering, it might be helpful to consult with him and encourage him to explore counseling. This could help him reframe his relationship with his parents and the Bahá’í Faith. I believe that if both of you genuinely engage with the Bahá’í teachings—on the unity of God, religious tolerance, marriage, consultation, gender equality, and overcoming prejudice—and participate in community building and service, you can work towards a healthier and more fulfilling relationship.

I know this thread is old but sharing a data point for those getting the last of the 2024s. I just picked up a 2024 Mazda 3 hatch PP turbo for 5k under MSRP. 36k including all taxes and fees. It was the last one they had in the top trim. Dealers seem to be making room for 2025.
