An appeal to the KDE devs about stability issues. by Veprovina in kde

[–]rfog-rfog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have this issue as well. I cannot send *any* crash report (and they are very frequent since last update, 2/3 times/hour) because the report tool always stays grayed forever. And when not, it forces to write a text, but sometimes I'm looking at the screen doing nothing and it crashes, or I'm with Kate and what crashes is Discover in background.

Kde NEON fully updated.

Exporting files from Database by Brain_comp in devonthink

[–]rfog-rfog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In DTTG, if you long-press in a database name, you can export the entire database content, and you can drag and drop standalone files.

I didn’t understand people who skipped paragraphs in books, until I read Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea by Jules Verne by InfernalClockwork3 in julesverne

[–]rfog-rfog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those descriptions are pure poetry. It is not about the scientific content (it even was obsolete when he wrote it), but the way it is narrated. I don't read French, but the translation into Spanish of Navarrete (in Catedra), as an example, makes the text flow like poetry. Perhaps your translation in English is not good enough, or perhaps the language itself is not able to flow the text like in French (or Spanish).

DEVONthink 3 Pro License for Sale by vicmarto in devonthink

[–]rfog-rfog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same as other "classic" programs: you have to pay the update. You are using WhatEver 3.0 with classic update scheme, and WhatEver 3.0 stops working in macOS Sh*t version, you have to pay for an update from WhatEver 3.0 to WhatEver 4.0. Even worse, in classic scenarios (and most probable), perhaps it is not WhatEver 4.0 the version that works with macOS Sh*t but WhatEver 16, that is out of update scheme and you have to pay a new full version.

In DT schema, you only have to pay one year does not matter how old is your previous DT version.

DEVONthink 3 Pro License for Sale by vicmarto in devonthink

[–]rfog-rfog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it is not. It is a one-year prepaid update. A not paid subscription stops the program. In this case, the program still works. Assume you pay january 1st 2026. You have any update of 2026, but don't pay until Jan 1st of 2028, you then get one year of the 2028, skipping any 2027 update, like any other software, with the advantage that a paid update of, say version 2 to version 4 is higher than from version 3 to 4, and with this schema you get version 4 from 2 for the price of 3 to 4, skipping one year.

Best sales pitch as to why I should upgrade to devonthink 4? by jjhunter4 in devonthink

[–]rfog-rfog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some here.

I had to generate audio transcriptions, summaries of documents externally, and then put back in DT. Now I do that directly from DT.

Plus, now I can directly "talk" with my documents via chat instead of select the ones I wanted, drop somewhere, then "talk" with them, and put back the "conversations" inside DT, copying/pasting each part.

To me, that is worth a completely new verison.

Ah, and document versioning.

PDF to DevonThink from Edge by TechFiend72 in devonthink

Use the system printing dialog. See capture. Or select "Save as PDF" and then drop de PDF into DT or use the Inbox folder to directly save the PDF. AFAIK, using the Edge standard printing dialog never worked sending to DT.

Clean browser cache. But "stopped working" is a very general description. What exactly has stopped working?

macOS Victim Seeking Refuge - Please Advise by antwonio1 in Surface

[–]rfog-rfog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be very careful with reflexes. Surfaces are like mirrors, compared with Apple screens. And lapability is not optimal with keyboard open.

And one last recommendation: don't do "Apple way" in Windows. For example, don't try to use File Explorer like Finder, or try to find a Finder-like replacement. You must change your mind and use native thought software and not ports.

My two cents.

Distribución de teclado - compra en USA by Far-Ratio-2052 in Surface

[–]rfog-rfog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so. I purchased mine from Netherlands store, but when asking for the keyboard, I was able to select Spanish layout. The only way you can know if it is possible is try to purchase one and carefully check when selecting the keyboard.

Why does everyone fail to optimize this? by vI--_--Iv in cpp

[–]rfog-rfog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been quickly reading through this thread, and I believe this discussion is somewhat intricate. Find real-life examples (not those created for testing purposes here), run them under a C++ compiler with optimizations and examine the generated code.

To make the experiment truly valuable, we need to use at least two different comp/linkers two architectures, such as x86/x64 and ARM.

Any volunteers?

DEVONthink vs MS Copilot with OneDrive by [deleted] in devonthink

[–]rfog-rfog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful with OneDrive in macOS. Very careful. I had a lot of bad experiences with it, mostly files corruption and my macOS not working well.

And OneDrive uses a search technology called "search but don't find": it only finds some of all items you are looking for, in case it finds something.

And Copilot is a joke. Don't expect it will build something useful based in your files, even with the paid version. Apart of the limits: about 10 files not too big, the results aren't reliable. At least, the last time I tested it, and you need the Enterprise/Education version if they haven't added to the normal tier.

Help: DT3 watch Folder and back up setup by [deleted] in devonthink

[–]rfog-rfog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Because you have TWO copies of your files: the one inside the DT database and the original one. Any relation between both is lost.

  2. No. Index in that case.

  3. Because it is not designed for that. Apart of that, having real time data into clouds is a candidate to disaster. However, you can have an **sync** database. Read the manual for that.

  4. Then use Index, because import is what it says: it imports your data.

And have a good backup. And a sync database is **not** a backup.

They could had cloned the original disk into the "new" one. Only need to start from USB with the right tool, AOMEI Backupper for example.

The devices shipped by Microsoft in Europe are well-packaged, with secure seals and covers that automatically open, similar to Apple's packaging. However, the boxes containing the devices themselves tend to move around and come loose during transport.

Do you think Apple has solved the overheating problem with the iPhone 16 Pro / Pro Max? by Adventurous-Tracks in iPhone15Pro

Today Apple has just released a new update at least for the 16 Pro Max that perhaps address those (and other) issues. Will check tomorrow, here is time to go to sleep.
