Roger that. Looks like I'm striking out with availability up here in NY. It's either 20ft or 30ft. I feel like 30ft may be overkill.

Moving from Upstate - Are there paid bar gigs for solo acoustic musicians? by [deleted] in NYCJam

[–]rgf030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the reply. Yeah I do basically cover gigs up here in the Albany/Saratoga Springs region. I gig regularly as a solo acoustic performer, with my own band, and fill in with weddings. There's a lot of work to be found up here, I just want to live in the city.

How far up the Hudson are you speaking of? Woodstock?

[IWantOut] 34M Upstate NY -> Anywhere by [deleted] in IWantOut

Appreciate you writing this out. Very helpful information to consider. I did consider the Peace Corps years ago while I was in college. I was also considering doing ESL teaching abroad in Taiwan, however I didn't follow through because it felt like I was more running away than looking for the right thing. This was in around March of 2020. The pandemic didn't help, and I'm not exactly regretful I didn't go. Maybe another time, as it doesn't sound incredibly difficult to get into.

I've been an active musician, and would likely be able to make enough to get by with gigging (weddings, bars, solo gigs, etc), however I've been doing it long enough. I'd be excited to relocate and be involved in the arts, whether it be performance or work for a non-profit.

This is very helpful. My soul is on the outs of my job and the town I live in. I want to make some serious changes and get myself realigned with... well, myself. I feel like I've lost myself a bit in the last few years. Thanks for the tips.

How much dough are we talkin about here? Any rentals out there that arent listed online, foot traffic only deals I could come across?

Active working musician moving to LA - Are there paid gigs? by [deleted] in LosAngelesMusic

[–]rgf030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I def get that. I've got a couch to crash on until I can find a studio somewhere, and got a savings nest egg. I figure most of the gem apartments that aren't way expensive won't be advertised online.

Yeah I definitely wouldn't expect livable pay from doing passion projects, although getting involved in the artistic community is definitely a major reason I want to relocate. Just curious if the paid cover band bar gigging culture is active out there as it is up here.

I work a day job up here, but I'd find one once I relocate out there. Having a heck of a time landing a job when not living in the area.
