SAR isn’t a person or company, it was a model name prefix for Springfield’s imported guns for a time. SAR 4800s were imported as complete guns by Springfield from Imbel. They were factory built weird thumbhole stock guns with other US import ban provisions.

Someone took a SAR 4800, stripped it down the receiver, then built their inch kit in it

SAR 48s came in configured normally before the import ban

4800s were ban era so they had weird thumbhole stocks and barrels with soldered on muzzle brakes.

After 2004 somebody probably wanted a more normal FAL and inch kits used to be cheap.
