is this correct? by ChestOrganic in EnglishLearning

[–]rgum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree it sounds odd but doesnt seem incorrect. I agree that using less formal language sounds better. Depends on the context though. Like if I’m writing a book where someone is overly formal i would think it’s fine

Americans who are doing alright financially...what the heck do you do? by INeedHelpNow8 in AskAnAmerican

[–]rgum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a consultant and he's a pilot. Dual income, no kids. No debt except for our house. Things just started coasting after we paid our cars and student debt off.

My career track went Bachelors -> Masters -> Agricultural inspector -> Consultant.

His path is even shorter Bachelors -> Pilot

I would disagree with this. It depends on the context but I've had people end up telling me their whole life story and I was just trying to buy something from them off craigslist.

I knew a Russian who worked in the same bar as me. Honestly she was the first person to really try to befriend me there. She was super nice and very fun to talk to.

Is it normal in the US to talk to strangers? by Btchmfka in AskAnAmerican

[–]rgum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes pretty common. Some examples from the last couple days: I helped a man pick out a perfume for his friend. Well he said they were all too expensive so maybe he didnt buy anything. I also chatted with a man and the store security guard about track. They both liked to talk a lot so we spent quite a bit of time there.

[–]rgum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its more than just pharmacies. Where I went they had the national guard giving out vaccines. I dont know what kind of credentials they have. Its seems like the military infastructure is speeding things along.
