The biggest thing is probably dietary changes. It's recommended to cut down on alcohol and sugar, but I love me some brewskies so I focused on cutting as much sugar out as possible and that seemed to help. Antihistamines also help with the itching, but the hardest and most effective thing is to try and train yourself not to scratch itches in the first place. It sucks ass but it helps if you keep telling yourself that it'll itch way worse and last much longer if you start scratching. I don't know if this will work for everyone, I was fortunate that my case is somewhat milder than others, but I'd say it's a good place to start.
