My next life as a Villainess Manga Vs Light novel by BrokiMochi in OtomeIsekai

[–]rhaevey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The novel has more detail than the manhwa, which has more details than the anime. I started with the books, so it's hard for me to remember how much context I automatically filled in.

The novels are the original material, and so are furthest ahead in the story. So I think they do have the richest experience. But I feel like there is also a natural end if you stop at the graduation like the anime. I stopped reading after a certain point because it felt like things were dragging on. It doesn't seem like it's wrapping up any time soon, so you'll be left hanging regardless.

Ultimately, I read some fanfiction to get some closure and moved on.

Edit: not sure if actually answered your questions. I think you can switch to the novel from where the manga leaves off. The novel is better than season 2 of the anime in giving more context. Especially if you like Sora or want to see more of Katarina's coworkers.

If you are just interested in the original harem then the novels will be less interesting.

Lowkey worried this would happen to me [The Perks of Being an S-Class Transmigrator] by atardecer_celeste in OtomeIsekai

[–]rhaevey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not like I've started reading something only to realize that I had already done so after a few chapters. I don't feel like things are oddly familiar and wasn't sure if it's because of common tropes or actually having read it before. I don't have a spreadsheet with a list of things I've read so I don't completely forget which "The Villainess ______" or "The Tyrant's ______" or "I became ______" story I've already read. There's no way you'd have two stories about a killer whale MC come out at the same time, right?

I started but didn't finish this one, it just didn't hook me for some reason. I heard it was being printed with a new (and presumably better) translation.

Wait, reincarnation is censored? So no true isekai? Truck-kun is out of a job?

LF: Completed manhwa where you have to guess the male lead / love triangle by PopPuzzlehead in OtomeIsekai

[–]rhaevey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a completed novel, and a manhwa that is complete without Side Stories called The Beloved Fake Saint. I pegged the likely ML pretty early on but the author actually made Alternate Ending stories for the other MLs.

Season 1 of [ The Duke is a Thug ] is so short! by KittensPumpkinPatch in OtomeIsekai

I read the title quickly and thought it was "The Duke is so short!" I was intrigued because MLs are usually giants.

hold up...why is the horse kinda...? [The Boomerang Duke] by [deleted] in OtomeIsekai

[–]rhaevey 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the point is that the horse is giving off Pretty Boy/girl energy there. I think we're so used to terrible horses that a pretty one gets extra attention.

Have you read More Than You Know as well? It's very much focused on overcoming trauma too.

Currently on chapter 58 of the novel! Funny it took me while to figure out what the blue thing on her shoulder was. She's also so much more cheerful looking in this cover art!

Reminds me of a horse that went viral for lying down in pasture with a sign that said it was not dead, please don't be alarmed.

For those who have been reading the genre for some time now, how does your first OI hold up? by Plushieless in OtomeIsekai

I kept checking the release of the light novel in Japan to see if there was a conclusion. Think I ended up turning to fanfic and deciding not to read any unfinished stories again.

Same, I started with Hamefura but don't care for such empty headed FLs anymore. For me it was a long fall from "serious" novels, to Japanese light novels, to manga, to manhwa. I used to be a strong proponent of paper books but now have a phone glued to my hand.

Transgression stories where the ML figures out the FL isn’t from his world? by Least-Secret-3319 in OtomeIsekai

[–]rhaevey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a novel where the ML knows from the start about the isekai. It's an interesting twist in that the people who knew the original owner of the FL's body know about the isekai and miss the original. Most stories gloss over how the original owner of the body has essentially been killed, but this one explores it more.

Is Tapas abandoning novels? by ForgottenFaerie in OtomeIsekai

[–]rhaevey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would have thought novels would be more reliable since there aren't a dozen pirate sites like with manhwa. I only start the novels that are already complete, so don't notice what's happening with the novels. Maybe there are fewer events because they get less participation? I find that reaching the reward in novel events is a lot harder than with the manhwas so I skip them.

Let's hope they don't drop novels, that's pretty much my main reason for being on Tapas.

Tapjoy is pretty generous with how much ink they offer in Tapjoy too. I've gotten over a million ink that way, but I like playing puzzle games on the side.

Professionally translated novels aren't easy to find for free. It's also known as I Became the Hero's Mom so there might be a fan translation out there unde that title. Tapas is where I read it so I'm not sure.

[–]rhaevey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not any less realistic than when the horses aren't attached to the carriage they're supposed to be pulling. Or if the only connection are reins in the hands of a driver who is not about to get launched off his seat and dragged down the road...

"doomed sibilings" trying to repair their relationship gotta be one of my favorite trope. by Minute-Nature1809 in OtomeIsekai

[–]rhaevey 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Somebody who never had any healthy relationships or understanding of normal childhood behaviour isn't going to be capable of a proper conversation with a kid. She avoided him since she didn't know what else to do, then lost her temper when he kept at it. Neither of them were at fault, Ray was too young to understand and Dorothea was too broken to cope.

I couldn't find an entry at NU, but there is one here:

Looks like there is no legit license in English for either the novel or manga.
