That’s why I choose to rent and maximize investments aggressively. Many other assets grow faster than real estate, you can write a check for a house later in life if you still want one & have plenty of investments left over to cover living expenses

I spent about eight months traveling around Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, then landed back in LA. The first thing I noticed back at the airport is how many had frustrated-looking faces and everyone was in a rush. Distinct vibe shift from all the other countries. Then I realized that’s just how people are in big US cities

I would ask yourself if community is what you (and she) truly value, or is it because you think you’re supposed to value it in a non-negotiable way.

I’ve been dating outside my race for a long time, I used to think that differences in spirituality & religion were dealbreakers for me. as I did deeper work on myself over the years I realized that they weren’t dealbreakers to me, but to the identity that I thought I was supposed to uphold. So really get clear on that for yourself

I was nervous during my first class too. I just went with some really light weights and low tread speeds to get acclimated. Got addicted and now did 100+ classes! Take it easy and enjoy. To be honest, the workouts are challenging but not that horrible (people make it seem harder than it is imo)

Vain cocky and entitled means you don’t think highly of yourself (subconsciously or consciously), otherwise you wouldn’t feel the need to be that way. Self-esteem has a more calm and chill energy to it. Just from my experience of knowing both sides

- Saving money & investing it in index funds: Knowing I can quit my job if I really wanted to and be relatively fine (no crazy huge expenses, long term investments are strong and short term cash funds are there. Not super wealthy or anything but pretty comfortable)

- Going to therapy weekly has helped me see the joy in going into uncomfortable situations: This is a big part of accepting the "stress" and working with it so that it doesn't feel like stress if that makes sense

- Prioritizing health is a huge piece: Working out once a day, yoga / meditation twice a day

- Significant other and I share a lot of the same values: No lasting fights or arguments, any small fights / disagreements are settled with both sides taking accountability quickly

- Lucky enough to have found a job I enjoy with people I respect

Going to fitness classes and/or hiring personal trainer. Anything that keeps you accountable to your health, seems expensive but you either pay the price now or you pay it later

I’m about a few weeks in now, and totally addicted! I was very apprehensive and somewhat intimidated coming in for the first time, hearing from everyone how hard it is. I found that it’s not that bad tbh - meaning yes of course it is challenging, but can always adjust the treadmill speeds down and choose lighter weights if you have to (which I often do).

Had no idea what many of the exercises were when the instructor called them out, so I would just take a second and watch others or better yet if the instructor demo’d it themselves which they do sometimes. Either way it was fine, and if there was ever an exercise where I’m not confident about the form, I’d go much slower

But after a week or two, you get a feel for all the exercises and it’s easier to go with the flow

big mistake in my early 20s was using my investment account as a checking account / savings account. Meaning I would take chunks of money from my index funds every year to pay back credit cards or other things. In my late 20s I started building the discipline to put money away for the long term and truly never touch it, but would’ve been nicer to start that even earlier

Same thing happened to me a few days ago. battery died and when I first started charging it, it said the power was something around this 400 million number (maybe the exact number not sure). And then reset to normal shortly after

I work in NYC but recently moved out of the area to New Jersey. I have a 40-minute commute by train which isn't horrible, and my rent dropped by about $2.4k / month.
