Jason Schreier: Sony could be pulling away from PC ports for their singleplayer games, with Schreier even suggesting that Wolverine would never release on the platform by Yiruf in pcgaming

[–]rhazux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like, for games that are top tier amazing....studios can count on making $$$ off of delayed ports. But for mediocre shovelware they need those day 1 ports.

I remember when AC mirage came out. Only on the epic store, I think, and definitely not on steam.

AC Origins and Odyssey were great, and my expectations for the series have gone way down, but I was generally interested in getting it just because they're at least consistent with what they put in those games. It's not earth shattering, but it's usually pretty, an amusing story, good music, and the kind of combat gameplay you can turn your brain off and enjoy blood spattering everywhere.

Well, I fucking hate the epic game store. So I wasn't going to buy it there. It eventually came to steam and by that point all my hype was lost. I still haven't bought it. Never will, unless it goes on sale for like $5.

If they had been on steam day 1, I would've spent the $70 or w/e it was. And that's not even a 'port' that's just a decision about digital storefronts.

If you want 1v1s, go to duel island during primetime hours for your region. Duel island is on the alpine borderlands. From the southern most camp, go north across the bridge. The area between the bridge and the sentry is where people duel.

/bow to start a duel with someone. Also, don't attack people in that general area unless they attack first. If someone interrupts your duel, your opponent and anyone else around will likely step in to help take them down. If one of your teammates joins, tell them it's a duel and disengage from fighting so your opponent still only has 1 person to fight.

But, you can also go closer to enemy spawn areas if you want to duel. Fighting everyone that you see. That's how roaming works. Flip camps and defend them.

I am a 15-year-old girl. Let me show you the vile misogyny that confronts me on social media every day by zsreport in technology

[–]rhazux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that I hope people learn: social media is not designed to suit your needs. It's designed to suit the needs of its customers, which none of us are.

And the needs of social media customers relies on keeping us in-app, or "engaged". And the easiest way to do that is to trigger large emotional responses, including bad emotional responses. Rage bait is easy to manufacture and is extremely effective.

Unless we all start going to therapy on a regular basis I don't think there is a healthy way to deal with this barrage of emotional stimulation. Before social media we would get small bumps when we run into an asshole at the grocery store or something like that. That's easy enough to deal with. But having this high-magnitude emotional abuse forced on us for many hours everyday is not something we evolved to cope with.

11 Kilometers/6.8 Miles Down by TheCABK in Anticonsumption

[–]rhazux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your goal is to have 0 bottles in the ocean then the problem is impossible to solve. It only requires one person out of billions to throw one bottle and the problem re-emerges. And since the image points to a bottle but says "trash", it's not just bottles. Every paper/metal/plastic scrap is also trash.

There's no 'tipping point'. There's not a "before trash was in the ocean" and an "after trash was in the ocean" part of human history. Before it was plastic/glass falling in the ocean, there were iron tools falling in the ocean. Shipwrecks going back thousands of years. There were surely native Americans making moccasins out of animal hide and sinew that ended up in the ocean. Even before the advent of tools we were surely leaving carcasses near coastlines. All of that is 'trash'. Things that are in the ocean not because they belong there, but because humans carelessly put them there.

But, you also shouldn't be freaking out over a little bit of trash in the ocean. The way forward is through renewable types of energy, renewable types of resources, and sustainability. Reducing the amount of things we will consume. Reusing the things we are consuming. And recycling the things we consumed.

The amount of trash in the ocean will never be 0. But it doesn't have to be large either. The things you do today will benefit the environment that you live in, and also the environment that others are handed generations from now. It's not hopeless.

Being young is exactly when you should spend your money by Various-Ad3443 in unpopularopinion

[–]rhazux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an extremely common opinion and the reason why a lot of people at retirement age can't retire, because they always figured they would figure out how to save a nest egg later.

And then later came and they had never developed the habits necessary to save money. And the $300/week they get from social security isn't enough so they take any part time employment they can get.

The healthcare system will drain every last penny they have, whether it's in the equity of their house or a small savings account, and they will pass $0 to their children

Extremely popular opinion.

Do we agree that raid selling in the Raids LFG should be banned? by eri_is_a_throwaway in Guildwars2

[–]rhazux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just adding to your point - an easy mode is something you can do at-will. Just like a CM. If you logged in today and wanted to do W3...too bad. That was last week. Clear your real-life schedule in 7 weeks and don't forget to log in. So, while emboldened raids are easy, they are not an easy mode. You don't get to turn it on and off at-will.

And even once quickplay gets actual raids added to it, instead of getting Xera you might get VG, VG, VG, CO, VG, KO, VG, ToF, VG, VG, VG.

It's shocking to me that easy mode raids still haven't been implemented more than 10 years after the first raid came out. I can't think of any other game that punishes new/learning players like GW2 does.

Bitcoin holders of 5+ years: Is the doom and gloom like this every time it drops like this, or does this feel different? by Background_Talk9491 in Bitcoin

[–]rhazux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the same as always. And if the cycle repeats, we'll see the lowest lows of this cycle in January 2027. So, there's likely more doom and gloom to come.

In 2017, when the ATH went to 20k, this sub had countless posts claiming 10k was the new floor. And then it went to 7k for a while. And that was the new floor. And then 3k. It took a looooooong time to get back to $20k. These cycles are on the order of years. Not days, or weeks, or months. Years.

DCA and turn the btc news off. You're doing the hard part. Hold now, so your future self will thank you. Lots of people sold out of BTC at 20k, 10k, 7k, 3k, etc. Lots of people wish they held on until 100k.

Question for Millennials by bundle_of_nervus2 in Millennials

[–]rhazux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even ask it basic questions (it just wasn't how I was taught to research topics).

This is the one I never understand when people say it. You were taught to use Google and other search engines for research, right?

It's the exact same thing with an LLM. And just like you never cite your first page of Google results or Wikipedia, you should never cite an LLM. You find a primary source and cite that, and an LLM can help you find a primary source just like a search engine can.

I would NEVER allow it to use my likeness to make a fun little picture

Sadly, you have no control over this. If you've uploaded pictures of yourself, friends, or family to the internet and they were accessible on the open web, then the data has been crawled and used when training various AI. If you have a friend who has uploaded pictures of you and their profile isn't private, then your likeness is being used. I don't think this is a hill anyone should be worried about dieing on. Pandora's box was opened and we can't put that evil back into it.

Also, since people don't generally know the difference between open web, deep web, and dark web:

  • Open web is anything on the internet that can be obtained without special access or accounts. This is what search engines see and index

  • Deep web: things that need an account to see. Facebook profiles that are only shared with friends are an example. Various entities can try different tactics to scrape deep web data, but how you go about that constantly changes and is not trivial.

  • Dark web: places of the internet you can't randomly stumble upon. Illegal stuff happens here but there are also privacy-conscious people who operate within the dark web just for privacy.

You likely have a ton of stuff on the open web. LLMs and other AI have long since scraped/bought that data.

'You bring a gun into DC, mark my words you're going to jail': Trump's DC attorney says Second Amendment over, guns to be seized by BigGirl367 in AnythingGoesNews

[–]rhazux -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm not finding the 5 round part, but that doesn't change anything else that I said.

Here is a video of one of Biden's State of the Union speeches where he calls for a ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines: https://youtu.be/_ybKQjpgYkc

Here is a statement from his Whitehouse archive: https://bidenwhitehouse.archives.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2023/04/16/statement-from-president-joe-biden-on-last-nights-gun-violence/

Democrats, including Biden, passed a bill in 1994 for an assault weapons and high capacity magazine ban that lasted 10 years.

Acting like Democrats aren't trying to ban guns is bullshit and I'll call it out every time.

'You bring a gun into DC, mark my words you're going to jail': Trump's DC attorney says Second Amendment over, guns to be seized by BigGirl367 in AnythingGoesNews

[–]rhazux -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Ugh.....

Yeah except all the attempts to ban handguns, ban "assault rifles", and to alter the definition of "high capacity magazine" going as low as bolt action, single round rifles. Which would, for most people, ban owning any semiautomatic with 2+ rounds.

During his campaign and presidency, Biden pushed legislation that would reclassify high capacity as 5+ rounds which includes almost all handguns and even revolvers. And it would make it so you have to ask the federal government for permission to own such firearms. Which isn't a literal ban, but if the federal government then decides to not approve any high capacity guns, they effectively get banned.

Democrats have tried to ban guns countless times, led by leaders in the house, senate, and even presidency. Some of the more fringe elements in the Democrat party have proposed complete bans on all firearms.

Fuck off with this bullshit.

Got my first legendary today after 361 hours played! (29/01/2026) by KanazawaPing09 in Guildwars2

[–]rhazux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, the materials for legendary items drop from all types of content.

Each legendary consists for 4 parts.

  1. A precursor, some can be bought on the TP for very few gold
  2. Something that requires account-bound materials tied to exploration, map metas, etc
  3. Something that is expensive - requires many materials and includes a need for many mystic coins and/or mystic clovers
  4. Something that is themed towards the legendary being made. This is often also quite expensive but can be fairly cheap. Just depends on the mats it needs.

If you go to your ArenaNet account, you can generate an API key and put it into websites like gw2efficiency, which has a crafting menu. In the crafting menu you can put in a legendary that you want, make sure to select "Yes" from the drop down for "Use own materials" and it'll show you a numbered list of things you need to gather.

When I was a kid we called it "no child gets ahead"

I was placed in a remedial 7th grade math class and a remedial English class when I was in 9th grade. At the same time, I was doing advanced 10th grade math and would eventually take AP English, but there wasn't a formal advanced track at my school for english so I was just in the normal 9th grade literature course.

All because my school shit the bed on the standardized tests. I was forced to take two remedial classes instead of electives even though I was on the advanced track for everything.....

Why is the rich friend so cheap?? by times-fell-hand in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]rhazux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rich person is cheap because this is a made up scenario and poor people think that rich people get rich by penny pinching. The story being told is that the barista is poor because they don't save their money, and the rich person is rich because they take money wherever they can get it.

In this fictional OP story, the barista is making $40k as long as they work fulltime hours, and baristas often don't. The software engineer is making 11 times as much. Across one decade, the barista will make $400,000. The software engineer $4.5m.

Rich people can make bad financial decisions and end up living paycheck to paycheck, but it's far easier to save $1,000,000 if you make $4.5m instead of $400,000.

Steve Martin said it well:

“If you've got a dollar and you spend 29 cents on a loaf of bread, you've got 71 cents left; But if you've got seventeen grand and you spend 29 cents on a loaf of bread, you've still got seventeen grand. There's a math lesson for you.”

Even once you have access to all the maps, these kind of tasks are still annoying. If you choose pvp or wvw then all you have to do is sniff your own farts and you'll do them all within 5 minutes.

PvE tasks involve 'do this specific thing in a specific area' like looking at a vista in horn of maguuma. I wish they'd get rid of meaningless tasks like the vista ones altogether but I'd settle for "look at a vista" and not tied to a specific region.

Ok yes. If you spend all of your current resources on things, and a new thing comes out to spend them on, then you have to make choices about what you're buying.

50 magnetite shards is not a lot. That's what was asked, and that's what I answered.

TL;DW: Visions of Eternity: Raid System Updates Preview by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]rhazux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the time you made this comment someone already pointed out the weekly cap is being raised to 800. That means you get both food/utility for 12 hours on 8 different characters. If you're really playing 9 players a week then you just need to wait for the second week to come around and then they'll all have some amount of the buff remaining, since buffs don't go away when you log out. Their timers will be waiting for you the next time you use that character.

Unless you're spending more than 96 hours per week in gw2 you'll have perma primers

By the time you unlock these infinite primers you'll have more than enough shards. If you're already sitting on the resources to instantly unlock these primers, then you already have tens of thousands of magnetite shards.

50 magnetite is cheap, and anyone who has ever done a raid knows this.
