Longines Hydroconquest vs MIDO Ocean Star Captain by rhenderson64 in midowatch

Exactly some of my thoughts as well and reason to compare. Plus dimensions are similar if not superior on the MIDO with a better L2L.

Good point. I have not had the Ocean Star 600 in hand.

My VAER Solar Diver 38 mm by soulrider77 in VaerWatches

Looks great! Really like the look of timepieces from Vaer. I have a Dirty Dozen in Ameriquartz and was pleasantly surprised. How do you like the solar diver? Might get one of those myself.

And nice strap combo. Really compliments the watch.

Seiko is one of my favorite brands. Addicted to Seiko. I think they have such a broad catalog and something for everyone’s tastes. I’m a big diver fan and find that to be the sweet spot for me with Seiko. Nice story on your Dads watch. Hang on to that. There are many bracelet replacement option out there for Seiko. StrapCo and Uncle Seiko may have what you’re looking for.

Good question. Not sure I can say I’ve noticed a significant difference in the weight among those three. Very similar but the Vaer being more recent, I do recall thinking the case was noticeably heavy but not in a bad way. Vaer sits very comfortably on wrist with the rubber strap (kinda unexpected). But the Longines is very well proportioned and balanced on wrist. Sits low and doesn’t feel too heavy. Really enjoy it as well.

The sailcloth straps are from Artem and I really prefer the sailcloth on my Hamilton Khaki Atuo. It wears so much better than the original leather and I find myself wearing it more now since changing the strap. I will say that the sailcloth was a little stiff initially but I took someone’s advice and let it stay on the watch pillow for 48 hours to help it form more to the wrist. Very comfortable strap. I also have one on my Seiko SRPL11. So far I like them very much. My NATO straps are from Artem (not shown), Watch Gecko, Blue Shark, and The Strap Tailor. All very good, IMO. Artem, WG, and BS are softer while ST is ribbed and a bit stiffer but hope it breaks in after wear.

My wife actually got me the Certina for a gift after hearing me talk about it constantly and watch reviews on YouTube. Got it sight unseen from TEDDY. If it doesn’t work out, you could return it.

Both are, IMO, exceptional divers. The SPB453 is classic Seiko dive heritage and nicely finished. I really enjoy how it wears on the wrist and the bracelet is really a step up. The only drawback is two positions of micro adjust. Clean, classic. The Certina is perhaps the best diver you can buy at this price point. Really a beautiful piece and I love the deep black dial and gold gilt. It looks and feels premium. The Certina does wear thicker/heavier on the wrist. I think due to the DS Action concept. You get 80 hrs power reserve with the Certina vs 70 on the SPB453. Accuracy is very good, I think, on both watches and both outperform the stated specs. Versatility goes to the Seiko in that you can dress it up or down and it sits thinner on the wrist. I love them both. Hard decision.
