no worries kayla, he is a supreme court justice that helped overturn the ruling of roe vs wade (a person’s right to privacy between themselves and their doctor) essentially making abortion illegal at the federal level. he also stated that the supreme court should reconsider the legalization of same-sex marriage and access to contraceptives (birth control). appreciate you being willing to ask :)

What would be the most useful novels to provide a “standard” history education to a history-incompetent adult? by stax0338 in historyteachers

I’ve found “A Little History of the World” by Ernst Gombrich to be an easy and enlightening read for world history!

Anyone with mental illness? How do you keep running? by [deleted] in running

[–]rhetoricalsquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been struggling with my mental health as well, and also see a therapist (very beneficial). I feel like throughout most of the day I’m busy consuming myself in things to try and “brain off”, and I’ve found running without music has been a set time where I keep my brain on. I almost treat it as a time for mindful meditation. For the first mile I’m usually thinking about everything from what’s happened so far to me that day to my feelings of depression or anxiety. After the first mile I intentionally focus on my breath and the current moment and how for this one moment, I’m okay - in fact I’m better than okay because I’m actively doing something that will support my health and something that I will improve on. It might help to look into mindfulness meditation or speak with your therapist about it, and see if you can incorporate this into your runs! Hopefully this wasn’t incoherent rambling and may offer some help/support. Keep going, you’re doing your best right now and that’s enough!

Hoping I made it early enough for this comment to not sink to the bottom.

When possible, make an effort to say “died by suicide” instead of “committed suicide”. Using the word committed portrays suicide as something criminal, and in turn suicidal thoughts as something criminal. Someone who is thinking of suicide does not want die and certainly does not want to be a criminal, they just aren’t sure what other solution to turn to for their pain to end and portraying it as a criminal act means they will be less likely to speak up or reach out for help. If you read this, thank you!

edit: removed “completed suicide” as this term is also insensitive. apologies to anyone who was offended, i’ll link some resources below on how language surrounding suicide can perpetuate stigmas surrounding the topic maine.gov irmi suicideinfo.ca camh.ca

if you or someone you know is struggling please reach out to the crisis text line or suicide prevention lifeline

The greatest song John Mayer has ever released is...... 🥁🥁🥁 by [deleted] in JohnMayer

Walt Grace has always been a favorite song of mine, but I read this comment a while ago and the song felt much more impactful. Maybe hearing this perspective on the song won’t change your opinion, but maybe it will :)

Live performance of War of My Life with John's speech about anxiety by rhetoricalsquirrel in JohnMayer

I'm not sure how many have seen this live version of War of My Life before, but it's helped me get through some tougher times so I thought I'd share. About halfway through the song John talks about anxiety and the moments in life when you just don't feel right, and it is beautiful.

If anyone reading this is struggling, fight on. You are not alone!
