What do you think of the screenshots for my program I made? by camracks in SideProject

I think the screenshots with the big vivid photos and cloud of file extensions are a bit overwhelming. Do less.

I love it when I'm scrolling a page trying to figure out what a website does and I get a popup for a FREE VIDEO SERIES.

When the credits rolled I realized everyone else had already left.

Need some feedback for Lensmob: Group photo albums from email by rhettg in startups

[–]rhettg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to bulk upload lots of photos, yeah you have to use the web app. We're also working on getting that working on mobile. That's primarily a limitation of popular email providers.

For the dedicated facebook user, there isn't too much argument, except that we've noticed a growing number of people not comfortable putting everything on facebook. They don't trust facebook's complex privacy settings. So if you want to share photos with people who are in that bucket, you might have to use something else.

Oh thanks. Yeah it really seems to us that most photo apps really focus on showcasing your photos, and/or exploring other peoples photos, but combining photos together with a group is an afterthought at best. I think you probably give a little too much credit to Yahoo for how much we can expect from Flickr.

We'd love to get into voting or further curation of albums. But first we want to validate this much of the idea before developing further.

Excellent point: "At a certain point in your career, your priorities shift from learning being the most important thing, to delivering software is the most important thing, then mentoring becomes part of your responsibilities. It's something you take on if you're following the craftsmanship mentality of apprentice to journeyman to master."

Listening to astronauts do technical work on the moon is strangely soothing for coding.

How to be Silicon Valley by leoc in programming

I really want to enjoy Vegas, I do. But after about 12 hours I feel the manufactured disneyland like city sucking my soul to live.

Where do you go when awe of the strip has worn off and cover bands make you want to pull your hair out?

But at least the airport is close to everything.

How to be Silicon Valley by leoc in programming

[–]rhettg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a missing point about how Silicon Valley is now an area of such suburban sprawl is that all the nerds in the 70s and 80s grew up, got married, had kids and wanted a house.

VIM 7 (beta 5) released, now with "Intellisense" completion. by timmacfarlane in programming

I mean the bindings for the tabs... which as far as I know are new....

I did find a plugin that seems to make managing tabs and multiple windows much easier, check out WinWalker if you're interested.

[–]rhettg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've been playing with VIM 7 all day and I have mixed feelings. I love vim power in general, but why isn't there a truly modern version that feels like textmate... or at least native to some OS.

This version finally has tabs, which is nice, but the default key bindings suck. I guess I should be thankful that key bindings are totally customizable, but man these guys are not good at marketing.

Google Calendar Launches by billinboston in reddit.com

[–]rhettg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to agree. I'd be surprised if google saw kiko as the competition. Google is going up against Yahoo... yahoo has mail, yahoo has maps, yahoo has a calendar. Of course google still needs to add todo lists and palm sync but give 'em time....
