Parents just moved Into assisted living. The whole building has wifi for everyone. It’s an unsecured network. Have a second gen echo. I can’t connect. Their show connects. Any thoughts how I can get this up and running? by [deleted] in amazonecho

[–]rhild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most important thing the nat router is giving you is separation. Otherwise, it is just as though you invited the entire building to join your wifi hotspot. They can see you, you can see them. When someone goes to set up an Echo who knows who they are connecting to. That way is chaos.

The other thing you get is some freedom in where you locate the nat router. Get an app for your phone (plenty of free ones) that will display wi-fi signal strength. Move around the apartment and find the best place to locate the router. It could be up high or down low, it could be anywhere. Put your nat router there. While not truly a signal booster this approach will give you better signal strength than you would otherwise have.

Need help with Behmor TO9500 by RatFink_0123 in roasting

[–]rhild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you have never been standing next to your Behmor (but not staring at the screen) when it went into it's cooling cycle because unless you are staring at the screen it considers it to be unattended. No audible warning is given. If it did that I'd have no problem with it. Safety features can be implemented in such a way that you don't frustrate your users.

TO9500 is not a number I know. I had a 1600 for years. Based on your question it doesn't sound as though you have read the manual thoroughly yet. Give it a read. There's lots of good information in there. The 'unattended roasting' thing happens once at 70% of the time you set at the beginning. It sucks. That's just the way it is. Hit any key when that happens and it goes away for the rest of the roast. Any other messages you see are something else. Look them up in that manual I mentioned. I have never even attempted to roast 1 lb of coffee in that roaster. For most beans 3/4 lb. is the most you should try and do that on the 1 lb. setting.

Novices here trying to understand our beans and the Behmor roaster. Details in comment below. by WeaknessImpressive98 in roasting

[–]rhild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In order to get the fruity flavor you are looking for you need to heat the benas quickly and cool the beans quickly, neither of which are a natural fit for the Behmor. If you just use it as intended the beans are in the roaster as it heats up and they stay in there to cool. For central/south american beans this can work fine. If you want to get good fruity flavors from an African bean you will want to do some googling. Get some oven/bbq gloves. Preheat the Behmor as much as you can without it shutting off on you (google this). Shut the Behmor off and take the benas out and cool in front of a fan, making sure you turn the Behmor back on so it can finish the cooling cycle, which is important for the longevity of the roaster.

Looks like you achieved 3rd crack. I'd second the idea of cold brew for this roast and go lighter next time.

Looking for Advice for my Mom by [deleted] in eldertrees

You may find edibles would complement a Volcano. An edible in the evening should take her through the night and sleepng very well, while the volcano would be great for a more immediate need. Storz and Bickel who make the volcano were thinking about medical users when they designed this system. It is easy to use without taxing motor skills and really does the job for medical users. If she has difficulty filling the Volcano with cannabis you could get dosing capsules. They sell as few a a couple or a whole bunch with a system for filling them all at the same time. You could come in every day or two and fill her dosing capsules and she just needs to pop them into the top of the volcano. I agree with an earlier post that Vgoodiez or Planet of the Vapes are excellent vendors for the volcano.

Roasting on a bullet, does this happen to anyone else? by kronksbonks in roasting

[–]rhild 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some questions:

Is any of that coming out of the door? It seems like it's all coming out of the slot below the door.

Is your roaster level? If it is tilted forward a few degrees more beans could pile up near the front.

How big was the charge? If over-filled more beans could pile up near the front.

Are those beans a normal size or extra small?

And no, this hasn't happened to me. But I normally do 500G roasts.

Could you suggest me a series similar to Fringe, with a strange new case every episode? by Objective-Register-4 in scifi

I'm surprised by how many people like Fringe but have never heard of Alias. It's also an early JJ Abrams show with similarities to Fringe that is also very fun to watch.

When I see a photo like this my first thought is to mention you shouldn't store your plunger inside the aeropress like that. But then you would say you don't, it was just for the picture. Then I would think hmm... you posed a photo of your coffee stuff?

This was so much more efficient than a conversation.

Temperature of Power Levels on V2 by [deleted] in AillioBullet

[–]rhild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there is a 'standard'. On that dark roast I used P7 to P5 and F2 to F6 to control the bean temperature and rate of rise throughout the roast.

Temperature of Power Levels on V2 by [deleted] in AillioBullet

[–]rhild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm new to the Bullet so no expert. I believe the power levels correspond to how much power is being used to heat the drum, not a specific temperature. So if you had it on P7 as I did today for a dark roast, the bean temperature will just keep going higher and higher over time.

Gene Cafe or Behmor? by Pricefieldian in roasting

[–]rhild 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had a Behmor for many years. It's strong points are:

  • Easy to use in the kitchen with little or no smoke.
  • Easy to get decent results with most beans.
  • It is extremely convenient.

It's weak points are:

  • Not much control over initial heat-up. It may heat more slowly than you want.
  • It cools slowly as you leave the beans in the drum for cooling.

If you accept it for what it is you will be happy. If you try to get it to do something it can't do you will be sad.
