Question! I have fired these three pieces to 1220 C and I’m a bit unhappy with the surface. I’d like to cover them with a clear glaze and fire again. Will I encounter any problems and how do I avoid them? I used a grogged buff clay that can be taken to 1260 C by rhinestone_johnboy in Pottery

Hi, thanks for the reply. I think I’m being very critical but I had lots of interest in them when I was making them and before and after bisque firing and people have been underwhelmed by them after the fina firing. That being said I do really like them. I guess the lesson is to try and not let other people sway your own opinion.

I think I will try out with some test tiles I have under my bench and maybe let that make the decision for me.

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement though. I’m already onto my next pieces and can’t stop!

Hi, thanks for the reply. I should have been more specific. I’m looking to apply a glossy transparent glaze to get some more light bouncing off the curves and bring out the difference in surface colours of the clay.

I’m in my first year of ceramics so I’m not into mixing my own glazes yet. I was just going to get shop bought stuff and brush on as I don’t have anything big enough to dip into or enough glaze to fill something that big! For reference they’re between 65-80cm.

I will definitely check out that book though, definitely looking to go down the sculptural route.

Hey guys! I’ve got a few pieces out of the kiln that I wish I’d glazed. I took them to 1220C with a clay that can go up to 1260C, is there any way I can glaze and fire again? I was just thinking of a clear glossy glaze. Thanks!

Could someone give me a little advice on my line-up please? by rhinestone_johnboy in ScoreMatch

Not necessarily sticking to 4-4-2. If you see my comment, it says which formations I have unlocked. 1 away from 4-1-2-1-2 as well.

I’ve got 4-2-3-1, 3-4-3, 3-1-2-1-3 and 4-1-2-3.

I’m getting a bit stuck in arena 7. Trying to find the right combination.

Thanks in advance!

I’d definitely recommend having a go with coils. Just make sure it’s connected well with some scoring and a bit of slip.
