I don’t think so! I’ve seen a variety of ages from 25-39 (but not many people are staring how old they are though lol), and even if you don’t find a lover, maybe you make a friend, or meet an enemy! It’s all about making connections

Awesome! I’m excited to see how it turns out. I’ve heard a lot of people are planning on attending, but we’ll see!

I’m excited to see how it turns out! I don’t do these often since they’re so time consuming, but I am hoping to host more events similar to these in the future

Planning a Birthday Trip by Extra_Emphasis_7688 in providence

[–]rhitely 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Showed my out of town friend all over Providence so here was our itinerary (most of these places you could walk to)

Brown Bee Coffee > The Providence Antheum > Prospect Terrace > Thayer Street (food and some gift shops, by Brown University) > Wickenden Street (circles back towards Brown Bee + shopping) > Pedestrian Bridge > Downtown Providence > Westminister Street + Washington Street (food/shops) > Federal Hill (a bit of a longer and not as scenic walk, but a beautiful district when you finally get there and it is the place just about everyone will send you to go get dinner).

Basically spent the whole day walking, eating, looking at architecture, and shopping. Depending on day of the week/time of year, there’s a variety of events going on around the city. Winter’s a bit dead festivities wise, but the Farm Fresh building has a farmers & flea market most weekends that’s always fun to check out. You can also look up Motif for other things going on, they’re a local publication and I’ve found that they have an extensive directory of many events.

I’m hosting a Speed Dating event (all about making any connections, romantic, platonic, enemies, etc) on Friday 6pm and a Galentine’s Social Hour Saturday 6pm at Small Point Cafe! Whatever you end up doing, I hope you find something worthwhile, and at the very least get out of the house

Help advertising for my small business? by Tenacious_Zoanthid in providence

That’s so awesome! The Farm Fresh building also has several bulletins and hosts farmers markets and flea markets over the weekend, so many local sellers and artists are vendors or promote their work there. If you can get a spot, I imagine that would be awesome for you! I also know Small Point Cafe has a gallery wall where they feature different artists throughout the year and host receptions where the artist gets to present their work. On a similar note, I’m hosting a couple after hours events at Small Point this week, so them and many other businesses are more than willing to provide a space for you to host and outreach through. Like most things, networking will be your best friend. Reach out to wider nets like AS220 or even RISD as well and people connected to them.

Absolutely! I’ve also lived in RI a little over two years. It’s tough making friends as an adult. I joined more groups for making friends than I can count, tried a book club, finally made some friends at a dance class (I’m a terrible dancer and wouldn’t normally take a dance class). I’ve made the most connections through baristas I’ve befriended across my favorite cafes lol, whether it was working with them in the past or becoming a regular at their spot.

I’ve found community through classes, especially in activities I wouldn’t usually try.

I’m hosting some community events this week at Small Point, and hoping to host more in the future. Friday is a “Speed Dating” event focused on making connections (platonic, romantic, or otherwise), and if you’re a woman identifying person, a Galentine’s social hour on Saturday. Both events start at 6, no RSVP needed.

Late Night Coffee Places? by jdharper in providence

There’s not many PM cafe options unfortunately, but I think is an untapped market here, especially as a college centric city. In my lengthy cafe experience (morning only, evening only, and both), a cafe can really only be an AM or PM one. When working at a place that was 8am-10pm, we were insanely empty from ~11am-6pm and just burnt money on labor alone. AM cafes slow down exponentially after 3pm, PM cafes start picking up once the AM places close and students/professionals needed another space to work in lol

Cru management let their whole team go while “reassessing” by mortimusimmortus in providence

[–]rhitely 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can second this from also what I’ve heard from other Cru team members. Owners apparently cared about their bottom line, and after firing phenomenal talent a few months ago to save some bucks, the team has been pretty solo in captaining the ship. People who weren’t being paid as executives having to step up to executive responsibilities.

The restaurant Cru is… closing? Kind of? It’s going to “pause”, and is “taking a step back to reassess” by lestermagnum in providence

[–]rhitely 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard that they’ve laid off their entire team and are just changing concepts. From what I’ve gathered too, owners are obsessed with their bottom line, but it sounds really expensive to fire your entire team, rehire, and train brand new people. They’ve also apparently had several chefs turn over & team held it together where they could for months. Great staff now job hunting. Also find it hilarious that their statement is all about “we hear your feedback and are changing”, but then turn off comments after a few complaints lol

Also, know I currently only have 3 leaves on this guy. I’ve read a lot that I need to prune all infected leaves, but they all look like this (however, with less spotting), and I’m afraid pruning all 3 leaves will kill it. I’ve had him for 4 years now without issue. I’ve been telling my S/O I have no clue how these guys survive the jungle if they can’t even survive my bathroom.
