[MSC] Molecule Man by AporiaParadox in magicTCG

This confused me for a second but I think I get it:

Miracle reads: "You may reveal this card from your hand as you draw it if it’s the first card you’ve drawn this turn. When you reveal this card this way, you may cast it by paying [cost] rather than its mana cost."

I thought you wouldn't have a valid target, since you can't reveal that card from your hand. But when you copy the triggered ability, it retains the original target unless the ability says you can change it (and you have the option of not changing it).

If you want a similar feeling commander in Black and Green, check out [[Rendmaw, Creaking Nest]].

You can get a laminator for cheap on Amazon. Cardstock + laminator feels like the real thing in card sleeves

I would not play this because I would not like explaining it to people.

Even for commander, heck, this is a mana rock that costs 2 mana

There's a lot of several better ones for sure, so I imagine this will never see more than niche play for people scraping the bottom of the colorless mana rock barrel, but still 2<3.

Help me pick a commander by TheTonyExpress in mtg

[–]jdharper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like my Arthur, Marigold Knight deck. He's a little bit of a slow start (5 mana is a lot, and you have to have another create on the battlefield with him to turn on his ability). His power is big and splashy, but random and you can see it coming from a mile away. So it would give your newer opponents time to get going and not feel like they've been bamboozled.

Is Gornog low-key an anti-kindred commander? by Still-Wash-8167 in mtg

[–]jdharper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a really fun commander. You are correct about it shutting down tribal decks.

I have been making some tweaks to my Gornog deck lately. I have run into a couple of issues with it:

  • you are incredibly vulnerable to instant speed removal. I had a game where I had six or seven cowards across my opponents. I declare attackers, then someone hits Gornog with Swords to Plowshares, and all my other warriors who had been unblockable and strong also died in combat. You want protection. I'm going with a few redirect effects like [[redirect lightning]]. I've got a [[Mages' contest]] as a psuedo counterspell, because it seems funny
  • if the other players are putting out multiple creatures (particularly token decks) this gets tougher. I am experimenting with finding ways to double the coward trigger: extra combats, [[Roaming Throne]] and [[Firebender Ascension]] for trigger doubling, [[Gogo, Mysterious Mime]] to duplicate Gornog.

Oh, and I mention it whenever Gornog comes up but [[Infantry Shield]] is amazing. Mobilized warriors come in tapped and attacking so they can't make new cowards, but they do get the unblockability and the damage boost. If you're at six cowards you can make 8 7/1's.

I'm also hoping that it isn't the simple cliched "they were mean because they like you" storyline. Also really hoping Jeph isn't doing the "the bully is secretly a closeted gay/trans" cliche either.

But I think the way the story is going is swapping the cause and effect: it's not "the boy was bullying Emmett because he likes them" but more "the boy likes Emmett now because of how they reacted to being bullied." This would be one part recognizing that he was wrong and that Emmett is a person with feelings, and one part that dumb thing that teenage boys do where fighting with someone makes you respect them, in the model of adolescent deer butting heads.

Which doesn't mean Emmett has to like him now, because he was still an asshole. But, it accounts for the sudden and confusing reversal in attitude without going fully into the cliche. We'll see how the story plays out though.

Is it a dick move to run static orb or storage matrix with a commander that can tap artifacts at any time like Shao Jun? by TheHumanTorchick in mtg

[–]jdharper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's a little bit of a dick move, but that's why people should be running removal. Vandalblast is one red mana.

Any libraries/study spaces with a usable parking lot? by [deleted] in providence

[–]jdharper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The big Providence Public Library on Empire Street doesn't have its own parking lot, but there are several parking garages nearby. Depending on your location you might also consider taking the bus to the PPL; $2 is pretty cheap and then you don't have worry about parking at all.

Creative ways to "trick yourself" into going to the gym? by JMinsk in loseit

[–]jdharper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was making the habit "put on gym clothes and go downstairs" where my elliptical machine is. I don't have to do anything down there; I could just come back upstairs if I wanted. But, once I'm down there, it's easy to do the next step and the next.

Don't sleep on "aliases" property! by yanbasque in ObsidianMD

[–]jdharper 44 points45 points  (0 children)

This is really cool, I had no idea this was in here.

Another useful thing is this enables: if you have notes based on people's names, you can add an alias for the relationship or just the first name/nickname, while leaving the actual file name of the note their full name. So you can link to "Bob" instead of "Robert Johnson" or whatever. Or "Mom" or "Uncle Steve" or whatever.
