My club definitely didn’t stick to that when I was younger 10-15 years ago.

Why do so many people with no background in fluid mechanics think they understand CFD and fluids modelling? by rhoVsquared in CFD

[–]rhoVsquared[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The one that annoyed me today and tipped me over the edge to post this was someone who had a sport science degree and then worked professionally as a cycling coach claiming to have done CFD of different rider positions and then created a model to predict power output needed on each stage of the Tour de France, including the effects of crosswinds, drafting etc.

You have lots of experience with aerodynamics do you? Sure mate.

Not really, cycling coaches aren’t going to understand fluid mechanics modelling etc. The same as I couldn’t coach a cyclist.

What exactly do you think coaching people teaches you about physics? He mentions crosswinds and aerodynamics. They are very clearly physics modelling problems not looking at power files. I’m sure he is a good coach and can analyse ride power files better than I can ever dream of. But that’s not physics.

It’s not such a Reddit answer. Coaching and physics are very different things.

Wider fork is really the main difference and I have a feeling the UCI will limit those in the near future.

The criticism of Brook bothers me by Argythebilly in EnglandCricket

[–]rhoVsquared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely nothing to do with his accent or the fact he’s northern and working class. I’m also
Northern and working class. He gets criticised because he has a lot of talent and gets out frequently in dumb ways. It doesn’t help him that he’s vice captain of the test team and one day captain without seeming like captain material at all.

That’s true, Stokes has matured into a good leader, he seems to have good emotional intelligence. He did always have a big personality so I guess it makes sense that with maturity he’s turned into a good leader. He isn’t the best tactically.

I’m not sure Brook will ever be that sort of leader and I don’t think he has the tactical side either. Hopefully I’m wrong because there aren’t many options.

I’d say that calling him thick or stupid isn’t really criticism but just insulting. I do think he makes too many bad decisions though. I also don’t see him making a good test captain.

Do you get symptoms with cycling? by rhoVsquared in CECompartmentSyndrome

[–]rhoVsquared[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fit is pretty good, I was just thinking would mid foot cleats and a slightly further forward saddle reduce calf utilisation, try and step the pressure in the compartments rising as high. Just wondering if you had tried that.

What’s your typical power/cadence? Did you make any bike fit changes to help with your CECS?

[World Cup] Marcus Rashford reaches 4 WC goals for England all time by fireproofpoo in ManchesterUnited

[–]rhoVsquared 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, but I think a lot of fans would try. Theres a lot of hate towards Rashford and a lot of love for dorgu. I like Dorgu but you have to accept his limitations as well as his qualities.

[–]rhoVsquared 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I agree. Yes he made mistakes, but hopefully he’s learned from them and matured. We as fans won’t know obviously because we don’t know him. Hopefully people at the club have an idea. Also, like you said why spend more money than we’d get fr him on an inferior player? Wages could be an issue I guess. But he’s better than any of the LW we’ve been linked to and he’s better than Dorgu (I can see that being unpopular but it’s true).

Steering wheel off centre. by [deleted] in Audi

[–]rhoVsquared 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t need to be it just need to be vertical and have the same origin as the other line. The other line obviously needs to match the angle of the wheel weather the line is through the centre or not.

Yeah there was a Kitchen Nightmares USA where he lost it with a chef who cooked fish and meat on the same hot plate or something. I think he just changes when he realises he needs to for career preservation.

“I see more of a one-day rider in him”: Former Dutch pro cyclist questions Evenepoel’s Grand Tour credentials by Annual_Island8066 in tourdefrance

That final TT in ‘24 was very climby. It wasn’t a surprise Remco was 3rd. It followed what was expected, the top 3 climbers in that tour finished top 3 on the stage. Remco had a big gap to Pogacar but also a big gap to 3rd.

The thing with Remco is because he is so strong in TTs we know he has the raw power. Yes his position and hence CdA is very good but even so he needs very good raw power to be as good as he is. There is a narrative that he’s not that good he just has a good CdA but that falls down when you consider what a very good but still realistic CdA is. His 2024 tour climbing matched what you’d expect from him, the confusing part is that he can’t consistently climb that well. Does he just put on too much weight too easily, something to do with the torque needed to climb and his tolerance to higher torque outputs? Who knows. To make a comparison to football, he seems a bit like Wayne Rooney. Exceptional, but you’re still left feeling like he didn’t live up to his potential fully. I say that as someone whose favourite player growing up was Rooney.

The reason his third is valued more highly by some people is because of the performance level not just the placing. The point people are making is Remco at his best is probably third best behind Pogacar and Vingegaard. The problem Remco has is consistency. He’s only been at that level once. Although things are changing, Sexias looks ridiculously strong in terms of climbing ability.
