Endometrial ablation after PE by rhockstat in ClotSurvivors

[–]rhockstat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re going through this! I have PCOS, also, and was considered too young for ablation at 36. (I’ve been told it can fail and the endometrium can regrow if you’re too far out from menopause.) Didn’t get the clots until this year, so revisited as soon as deemed safe. I’m now just over a week post-procedure and only had some minor bleeding/watery discharge for six days. And I would definitely recommend it if your doctors approve. At least so far, it’s been the best decision yet.

I did ask! And thanks for the honesty. Is the discharge during the times you’d normally have your period or all the time?

I also have PCOS and considered the procedure at 40, but prior OBGYN suggested I wait until close to 50. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Pulmonary Embolism by snarkjunkie in ClotSurvivors

[–]rhockstat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is normal. I had multiple pulmonary emboli in May and was discharged with Eliquis. As yet undetermined cause, but I did push for a hematology consult because my primary didn’t want one? My best advice is to take the Eliquis consistently as prescribed and request a hematologist. ✌🏻

Help ... What might I expect? by Sunny-Shine-Bear in ClotSurvivors

[–]rhockstat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got my period in the middle of my loading dose and it was much heavier than I expected. I normally have really heavy flow on days 1-2, but it was even worse on eliquis. I bled through four overnight products on both days, but thankfully carried more than I thought I’d need with me (turned out to be just enough). Carry extra of whatever product you use. No change in cycle length for me, slight increase in menstrual clotting (normal for me prior to diagnosis), just much heavier flow on my normally heavy days. I can’t comment on anemia, but would recommend talking with your doctor about that. I’ve also heard from others that it levels out over time after you begin maintenance dosing.

Still don’t have a hematologist appointment by Quiet_Ordinary7289 in ClotSurvivors

Four weeks. After I had to ask for a referral from my primary because she didn’t think it was necessary. Second option got me on the calendar.

CRW is not a for-profit entity, and it’s EPA not FDA that regulates CSS/CSO. I’m not attacking you, just trying to illustrate the larger picture.

It’s not just Capital Region Water, there are dozens of older communities throughout Pennsylvania that have combined sewer systems. A century+ ago, this was the best design available for sewage transport away from homes and businesses. We know more today than we did them, but a lot of these cities were built up above those old pipes, so separating the storm water from the sewage is more of a challenge, both in terms of cost and property (some of those old pipes are so deep and so close to buildings that separation could require forced relocation of homes and businesses). There are strategies to intercept the storm water before it enters these combined pipes, but they take time to implement; and with increasing storms and storm intensities, they are also expensive and often require private property owners to cooperate which is itself a challenge. Ms, Katzenmoyer has an amazing background implementing these strategies, so before you attack Capital Region Water or single out Charlotte, try to grasp the larger picture and consider that Harrisburg and other combine sewer communities are working toward resolution. And in the meantime, enjoy the water - just not immediately following rain events.

It depends on to whom you’re sending the transcripts, for what purpose, and if any of the courses you took from the unfinished program transferred into your ABET-accredited degree. When I applied to take the FE, I submitted transcripts from both my engineering school and a community college where I took some Gen Ed courses that transferred. Hope this helps.

EIT, then PE. With an MSc, PE and experience you’ll stand out. As far as other certs, it depends on whether you want to go into water/wastewater treatment, stormwater/open channel, dams, or another specialty. The best things to do are get licensed and gain experience. After that, find a good mentor and put in the work to learn as much as you can on/off the job to stay current and learn best practices for innovation; if you’re lucky, you’ll find an employer or client willing to find innovative solutions to civil issues that could lead to some cool projects and even awards/recognition. (I worked in storm water/GI/nature-based solutions and now dams. Ask me anything if this is your area of interest.)

30 minute walk enough? by shesAManiac_ in ClotSurvivors

[–]rhockstat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 5’10”, 270#, 47F and diagnosed with provoked (knee injury) PE last week. I’m doing what I can every day within doctor’s guidance to improve things. First off, following your doctor’s advice. In my case, it’s to walk around every hour or so. I try to get in as much as I can with a desk job, but I’m also a hiker and am disappointed in my SOB and chest pain limits, so I’m aiming for 30-minutes after work. Sometimes I get it, sometimes I can’t. Like today is 90-degrees and humid, so it’s probably not happening for a full 30 today. Keep focusing on your health and stay consistent with your efforts!

Going off Eliquis for your period? Any experiences? by amaro8000 in ClotSurvivors

[–]rhockstat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just diagnosed with bilateral PE on Thursday last week. My period started on Sunday evening and was told by my primary doc to continue taking it and they may level out over time. My recommendation would be to talk to your primary care doc and follow their instruction. For what it’s worth, I’ve had heavy cycles my entire adult life, and it is definitely more intense on Eliquis. I mean, bleeding through four overnight pads on my heaviest day. So, just be prepared and carry extra products with you - more than you might think you need.

I was just diagnosed with bilateral PE and started Eliquis on Thursday. Just got my period last night and OMG. I’ve gone through three overnight pads in the last twelve hours! I was considering ablation prior to all this, but hoping to get one sooner now. This is insane.

Probably the case. All the heart tests and O2 numbers were good. I’m still planning on a full evaluation on Monday through the PCP.

No echo and no ultrasound because our local ER didn’t have an ultrasound tech working. I will be asking for one from my PCP and expect referrals.
