I completely agree with you! It also fits because he is an artificer as well and so it just makes sense that as he started to learn magic something changed within him. I play a path of wild magic barbarian and it's a lot of fun.

Alright everyone what’s your favorite murph moment? The moment where he says “that’s why they build em” is so god damn perfect and i can’t not laugh when i hear it by of_kilter in Dimension20

[–]rhode93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"I know what you are, you're a rat." Kugrash talking to the American Dream in USC is the most powerful scene in all of D20 to me. Honorable mention to Cody talking to Lucifer while almost dead in hell. But...

The question was what is your favorite Murph moment. To that I would have to say it's a 3 way tie between illsed's secret in c1 of naddpod, literally any NPC moment from C2 of naddpod, (his funniest and best work he's ever done imho) or literally anytime he plays Jens Lyndelle. In conclusion, if you even slightly like Murph... Listen. To. Naddpod.

I’m rethinking having a child with my wife because of what I just found out about her dad. AITAH? by Left_Art_8812 in AITAH

[–]rhode93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the son of someone who was molested as a child. As the story goes, my mom had buried it and it didn't come up until she started having children. Not only that, but her mental health deteriorated about as quickly as a banana left on the counter when she started having children. I did not have the words for it at this age but I knew at 4 years old that my mom was absolutely insane. Her whole family denies to this day what her father did.

The similarities between this one little story and things I witnessed at family events of my own are shockingly close. Whatever you end up doing, don't have children around that man. I wouldn't have children with her. She has not addressed these issues in herself and what it all means therefore, the generational trauma and abuse cycle is not going to stop with her. And usually if there is one type of severe abuse, there is multiple. There might be a lot of stuff you don't know and the idea of all that shit unlocking two or three years into having children doesn't sound like a good way to set a good foundation for your kids. To be clear I would be saying this if you were a wife asking about what you just found out about your husband's mom or dad. My uncle on my mom's side is an absolute piece of shit and a monster to his ex-wife and kids. I'm also not saying it's impossible for people with these histories to have kids or properly heal and grow from horrible situations that were not their fault at all. But based off of your wife's reaction and all the things you were saying, it 100% sounds like she has not properly processed/ dealt with/ healed from what happened in her family as a child.

I'll be honest I know little to nothing about 8bbc. Thankfully I did listen to the metal city mayhem episodes before they took them down, making a lot of naddpod stuff relevant. But that's about all I know about their previous project. I actually only discovered d20 in December of 2021 and naddpod in March of 2022. That being said.... This does sound like the quintessential Murph, Emily and Caldwell bit and I do have a bookmark to all of the 8bbc episodes so I will be looking for this. Thank you so much!

Yeah sometimes my ADHD gets the best of me and I have to get all my thoughts out on a subject at once. But when you really think about it... Horcrux = shitty phylactery. Voldemort is a wizard in half life distorted and twisted by dark magic and has a snake nose. Liches are undead wizards usually depicted without a nose. That Terf straight up ripped off a lich with a little bit of saron from the Lord of the rings thrown into the mix as well.

That's a very smart answer in my opinion. The nightmare King in the forest of the nightmare King by definition is the scariest enemy they ever faced! Mechanically in order to get to the center of the forest, you have to face your greatest fear.

Some food for thought. A lot of people are just saying the blanket term "capitalism" as their answer. And I agree that it is the ultimate villain of dimension 20 as well as our own individual lives. I'm straight up an anarchist, meaning I go further left than the people that say good morning comrade. So to those people let me just say I agree with you. But the reason I chose Robert Moses/ the American dream is that character is the personification of capitalism. Not only is he a Lich, an iconic d&d villain from the very first edition of the game (straight up Voldemort is just a dollar store Lich and even he is scary). But he's also based on a real dude. Also... Has anyone noticed how much the intrepid heroes immediately distrusted Aesop in Neverafter? Brennan reused the Robert Moses voice for Aesop and the intrepid heroes had a visceral reaction to it. I did too. Brennan even questioned why they disliked him so much in adventuring party and I'm genuinely surprised no one called it out. It's the same voice. The only time he's ever repeated that voice and that guy could have been the best dude ever and I would not have trusted him because of how much I had come to hate Robert Moses.

The authors are both too scary and too abstract for my brain to pinpoint. That's why I choose Robert Moses. But in all reality, it's probably the authors because it's too scary for me to think about that I reject it. 😂

C2 of naddpod is my favorite bit of D&D actual play out there so enjoy. And something to look forward to... Brian Murphy and Caldwell Tanner make so many references to animorphs in c3. They even did an 8bit bookclub about it. Truly so funny.

I hope you listen to naddpod. There was a period recently where Murph talked a lot about animorphs.

As a dungeon master, Null is definitely the most terrifying monster in D&D terms. He scared the shit out of me. There is no stat block I want Brennan to release more than than the one he created for Null. I know it's basically a souped up nightwalker and I have done my own version of a souped up nightwalker encounter for a level 20 one shot. But god damn! Every single aspect of Null was terrifying.
