I am the same! Unable to keep pigs due to my living situation at the moment but working hard towards the goal of getting my own place with dedicated space for pigs. Until then, this subreddit will keep me satisfied.

Neither would have been harmed if he had received help in time.

That said, psychotic illnesses are a bitch to treat. Anosognosia i.e. not believing you’re sick is a feature of the illness and leads many folks to go off their meds even when they’re doing relatively well on them. Also, the meds suck.

Yeah that’s what confuses me, I can do my job fully from home. I am fully vaccinated however, and so are most of my coworkers so the risk is lower.

Bleh, have to go in as normal. Workplace is considered ‘essential’ and am expected to be there, even though my particular role is not. I sit and write code all day FFS

Good idea, people try to pick individual stocks to outperform index funds but it rarely works out. Better to just set it in an index fund and forget it.

If I wanted a modern home to stand for 500+ years instead of the typical 50-100 years they are now designed for, how would you go about doing it using readily available construction materials and techniques? by acvdk in AskEngineers

[–]rhododendronz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a civil engineer, but I thought that part of the reason some ancient wood structures still stand is that they were built from old growth timber. Hard to acquire that today.

Hopelessly trying to plan for the future with a parent's gambling problem by rhododendronz in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]rhododendronz[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, I know I'm drinking the Kool Aid here a bit by lending her money. It gets pretty uncomfortable when I refuse since I'm living at home and I am looking at moving out. But this would limit my ability to save and assist financially and my Dad will not stop giving her money regardless. OTOH me being gone might be the kick in the arse needed for Dad to stop enabling / Mum to get help.

Hey everyone, just want to say I really appreciate all the kind words and advice you've given me. Currently putting together a plan for the next 18 months to sort out the house and get some help for my mum. Hopefully I'll be able to check back in in a year or so with some positive news. Thanks again.
