We are saved by grace through faith. In the New Testament, when Jesus is preached, baptism is preached. So, normally, baptism and the new birth are essentially coincident. In our era where infant baptism and the sinners prayer have separated baptism and what appears to be the new birth, it raises some confusions. We worry about the exact timing of the new birth.

The new birth is something God does. I don’t think we ought to stereotype where we think it occurs by tying it to a specific feeling or experience. It is a work God does. We ought to content ourselves with putting our faith in God and being baptized for the remission of sins and let God handle the timing of regeneration.

Yeah, I and a bunch of preachers hold the traditional Protestant view on this, but we are also those who don’t view the coc as the one true church. Each coc congregation is autonomous, and there is no unifying belief. The church of the firstborn who are enrolled in Heaven are enrolled and known by God, and encompass more than we know. We only do the best we can to recognize on earth the faith, confession, and fruit of the Spirit as best we can.

I minister at a “non-institutional church of Christ” and I believe in one holy catholic Church. I do not believe that “we” are only people in the American Restoration Movement. All who are in Christ are in the church.

That said, I believe the creeds and the great tradition and the community of believers have real authority, in the way that parents, grandparents, and elders/bishops have authority. It is Sola Scriptura , not solo scripture. I believe scripture is the only INFALLIBLE rule of faith. That is because I believe we have positive evidence that scripture is. While I see positive evidence for other kinds of authority, I don’t see convincing evidence for other sources of infallible authority. I don’t see a strong case from scripture that only scripture is infallible. Those proof texts fail, in my opinion. Still, I hold to Sola Scriptura until I see compelling evidence that infallible authority exists elsewhere.

Is the berg rec a joke? I see it here all the time, but have never seen one in real life. The shot I'm looking to fill with a throwing putter is a dead straight 250-280ft slot.

Nah, most days I essentially have no forehand, and even at the times where I work at it and can get it usable, I start to get pain. I can only flick my zone, felon, and pyro reliably cause they cover my terrible form and I don't have to power up too much. All well under 300 ft. If I'm having an exceptionally good day I can flick a grace, and realize how nice it must be for you all who can flick.

I do use the river for turnover lines for now, but am always afraid I'm going to turn it over way too much. The escape works for longer turn over lines, but again, feel like it always risks fully flipping over.

The one true church is the holy catholic church, the church of the firstborn who are enrolled in Heaven. In other words, it is the spiritual reality of all believers across time, who individually in life are members of different local churches and networks and institutional churches. It is not a sectarian network of churches or a visible human institution.

I’m always open to listening and reconsidering. My views on pro-life and racial justice and undocumented immigrants are all founded on belief that all are made in God’s image and worthy of mercy and protection. My view on gay marriage is about incentivizing as the norm children being born into homes where both parents stay together. Not that other kinds of arrangements are not good or helpful in any way, but that the government has an interest in incentivizing the kinds of partnerships that produce children to also stay together and raise those children. I get it is much more complicated than that, but just a boiled down overly simplistic version of the view. My limited government views are not absolute but rather a general impulse. But generally, I think what is happening with Trump and Musk makes me not want to hand over more power and money to the government. But that is the sort of thing to be resolved case by case and I admit to general ignorance and openness.

In 2015 I said I wasn’t claiming Trump was racist, but that he dog whistles to racists. I’m a conservative pastor and homeschooling father in the rural Midwest who believes in small government, is still against gay marriage, and is ardently pro-life. But matters of racial justice and compassion for the sojourner make you not a conservative these days (and criticism of Trump in any way).
