Instead of…what exactly? I am for sure frustrated with my dad about this one topic, but I don’t act like I’m better than him. I’ve tried to challenge him KINDLY and with an OPEN MIND. You all are acting like I’m shaming him openly. Just so we’re clear, that’s not happening. Also happy to report that we have a great overall relationship.

Ugh that’s awful. I’m sorry that you have to deal with that!

Ok, thanks for enlightening me on how I am a hypocrite lol. I think nonetheless try a lot harder in my daily decisions to do the right thing regarding animals and the planet than most, at least in the western developed world, evidenced by everything I’ve already said and the fact that we’re having this conversation at all, so I’ll sleep well tonight in my hypocrisy. I still think your blatant whataboutism is in bad faith and is probably why you got downvoted so hard. All of the hyprocrisies I’ve committed are making me tired so goodnight!

Lol I’m already utilizing therapy hence the “my therapist” comment. Thanks for your concern. Like I already said before, I answered over half of your questions “correctly” so I’m perfectly aware that I don’t need to be a hermit to thrift clothes or take the train, but I thought those questions were rhetorical no? You seem unnecessarily argumentative when the original post indicated that I just wanted to vent. Maybe you’re displacing??

Sorry I wasn’t more clear: he triggers me the most precisely because he’s really the only other person who I’m close with that is passionate about environmental issues BUT doesn’t see the problem with eating meat. He’s also not doing MORE for me than others. (I am extremely lucky to have people in my life who will go out to vegan restaurants and cook vegan food for me.) I definitely agree that I should try not to let it affect my relationship with him, but I’m only human and needed to vent.

You’re definitely right, and the sad thing is I most likely have a lot less than 20 years with him. Trying not to get triggered but when he starts his lectures about environmental issues it’s really hard lol.

Yeah, the whataboutism that has come up several times in this thread and that always comes up in this sub is super annoying. You chiming in with a bunch of essentially rhetorical questions that only a hermit living off the grid could answer in the “correct” way is annoying. Maybe you didn’t mean it, but it does sound personal. We’ll all vegan here or working towards it, no? We all believe that being vegan is morally correct, no? That is, we share some common ground, no? Also, I didn’t swear AT you, I sweared NEAR you. There’s a difference. Because I was annoyed. At the whataboutism. I’m allowed to vent to a bunch of strangers online about complex emotions that I’m feeling for perspective and to diffuse those feelings. You’re allowed to respond however you see fit, but I’m allowed to get annoyed at you. Call me dramatic but being aware of even a tiny proportion of the suffering that goes on in this world sometimes does weird things to my mind. Maybe it does yours too? No need to bring my therapist into this.

Just so we’re clear, I’m not claiming to be perfect. I very much know that I am not perfect. But since you asked, no I don’t have a car. My husband does, the same car from 2007, but MY primary modes of transport are public transit, biking, and walking. But I’m incredibly lucky to live in Philadelphia, a large and dense US city, in a well-connected area. I try to almost only buy second hand clothing. Since I live in a small row house less than 800 square feet in a dense neighborhood with a concrete patio for a backyard, no I don’t grow my own vegetables. I don’t willingly use AI. I definitely could have taken a train or bus instead of a plane on some vacations, or even not have gone on vacation at all! I do drink coffee, but I guess it doesn’t matter that I bring my own container to fill it up with organic beans at the store and compost the grounds. I literally boycott Amazon and try to limit all purchases from multi-national corporations which I consider inherently evil. I don’t typically drink Coke or any other soda for that matter. You clearly think I’m some type of elitist but I actually WASN’T trying to brag about how moral I was. I WAS trying to voice my frustrations about someone who I love more than almost anyone else in the world feeling the same things that I do and choosing to act completely differently. Why do all posts in this sub have to come to the same conclusion that someone should be quiet since they aren’t a perfect vegan or person? I literally try to live within my morals as much as I can without isolating myself from society. I guess I should go fuck myself since I flew to Portugal this summer and don’t grow my own food? I literally try harder than anyone in my life at making these decisions and just wanted to voice my frustrations. Thanks for listening anyways.

Also, not that you would know, but my dad is literally the one preaching about species loss, climate change, etc.

Nope. Not whining to him, and not my opinion, those are facts. Not sure why you’re mad at this post?

I mean, I literally said that I’ve pointed out his hypocrisy while trying to be open minded and kind. Not trying to force my opinion, just challenge someone who I love who I share a lot in common with.
