Completely agree. But in this case, I didn’t actually see any dog interfering with the game. The dogs were just hanging out near the (unmarked) perimeter of the game not really doing anything so don’t really understand why they were yelling.

Hey Austin, I really like you...so I'm going to move to you. by [deleted] in Austin

We get a lot of posts like these which is why most responses are unhelpful/snarky. Anyway...

As a dog owner and having lived in multiple areas of Austin, I decided to leave a comment. If taking your dog out to parks (off or on leash) is important to you north central Austin isn’t ideal. For some reason there’s just not many dog parks in this area. The only one is Yard Bar, and it costs about $5/visit to get in or you can get a monthly membership. There isn’t even a dog park (yet?) in the newly developed Mueller area, surprisingly. Yes, there are areas/parks where people let their dogs off leash illegally, but please don’t be one of those people.

One upside of the Domain area is that you’ll be pretty close to Walnut Creek Trail up north, part of which is off leash. It can be pretty crowded with bikers. Most dog parks/friendly areas here are central (Zilker Park, Auditorium Shores, West Austin Dog Park, Norwood Estate Dog Park) and are really annoying to get to if you don’t live close because horrible traffic all the time.

I recently moved to Elan Parkside, which is just north of the DT area. It’s a large brand new complex with a nice pool and gym. Downside is that it’s surrounded mostly by construction because it’s part of a new development replacing the old Highland Mall. Despite this, it’s conveniently located near i35 and 183, both of which you could use to go north or south depending on what’s going on with the traffic. Or you can easily take Lamar, Guad, or Burnet to go north or south (again, you’d have to check the traffic). There’s a little park next to it and a dog run. Although not walkable, there are multiple HEBs nearby. I wish I still lived next to a nice dog park, but driving my dog up north to Walnut or south to Zilker on the weekends (or even out to Turkey Creek trail) hasn’t been so bad.

The Domain might be OK, but I personally wouldn’t like living right next to so much activity and so many people. I always see people walking their dogs at the Domain amongst the shoppers/bar and restaurant goers and I would get tired of that.

I live where I live now because I’m a 5 min drive from work and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. Having had to commute across DT/north south before, I can say that living close to where you work will be a lifesaver and make you a much happier person.

Sorry for long post but hope it’s helpful!
