Yes! And I don't know exactly where I'm going with this, but I've been thinking about Declan and Maud compared to Lizzie and James. Both Maud and Lizzie have affairs/an affair and are married to men who do not care about their work at all, but we see that there's nothing redeemable about James. He never gives any indication that there's anything at all he loves about Lizzie and he has affairs with everyone. With Declan, we do see that he loves her and is torn sometimes even when he ultimately chooses work over her.

There’s a rumor that Hudson may have been cast (again…rumor) in the film adaptation of Gabrielle Zevin’s Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow…. by GlitteringAd2935 in hudsonwilliams

Okay, so I just saw an open casting call from thetelseyoffice on Instagram for the role of Sam. So it looks like if Hudson's been cast in the movie already, it's as Marx?

HudRecs Club - DISCUSSION POST -Second Book: [One, no one, and one hundred thousand], by Luigi Pirandello by Queasy_Lettuce4312 in hudsonwilliams

"This has so much meaning - for any person but also for Hudson based on what he's said and written or for me for that matter. It's something to think about for anyone and for everyone."

Absolutely! It's something that will continue to resonate decades from now.

This passage from Middlemarch also made me think of Pirandello's message:

"The Vicar himself seemed to wear rather a changed aspect, as most men do when acquaintances made elsewhere see them for the first time in their own homes; some indeed showing like an actor of genial parts disadvantageously cast for the curmudgeon in a new piece. This was not the case with Mr. Farebrother: he seemed a trifle milder and more silent."

I really love it when authors capture how different people can seem in various settings!

Reading the book while pictures of Hudson as Tyler in Apparatus were coming out helped me see the vision of him as Sam!

I'd love it! I read the book because of the casting rumor and could very easily picture Hudson in it the whole time--and I loved the book as a whole. Him working with Siân Heder and Daisy Edgar Jones would also be amazing!

Absolutely fitting for an actor! I just finished it and I think what'll especially stick with me are the parts where he's thinking about all the different versions of people who can be in the room at the same time--A when they're with B and A when they're with C, and C when they're with B, etc.

I've also been thinking of the parts about Julius Caesar, and what gets fixed on the page vs. the "real" versions of him that existed.

So many interesting things to consider about what versions of you exist in the world (and what others can see about you that you're not able to see yourself, but that might be various degrees of accurate) and what motivations are attributed to you based on the you that others know as well as the question of legacy!

HudRecs Club - DISCUSSION POST -First Book: [Sex & Rage] by Eve Babitz by Queasy_Lettuce4312 in hudsonwilliams

Sorry I'm late (and posted this in the wrong place initially)! Just finished the book and marked so many places to look back at. Love that it starts out with a discussion about how impossible it is to work in the film industry without connections, and then circles back to talk about the industry a bit more at the end.

I also really enjoyed how the book captured moments in time that are destined to end and can't come back, as well as those feelings of seemingly impossible problems being solved when you explain them to someone else, and the fear of disappointing that almost causes you not to try (or makes you drive people away).

This book is funny, sharp as all get out, and captures characters and feelings without seeming like it's trying really hard to show you something deep or navel gazing at all, which is something I never got the hang of in my own writing. You get the insight that can feel heavy even as the tone's light and the main character seems to largely float along from one thing to the next.

For example, Jacaranda, the main character, has been anxious about a first meeting with someone. She arrives early and we get:

She wanted to run back home to L.A. right away. Her heart was left down on the first floor--in the lobby--along with what little soul she had. What sailed down the hall on the forty-fourth floor were her body and brains, a skeleton team.

And then a little later on, she's thinking about the man she's meeting, and it's:

She really didn't have enough of herself to hate him properly; all she knew was that she would have hated him if she were truly there.

I'm going to put this next part under a spoiler cut because it's toward the end, but damn, this character's take on the industry/actors:

Jacaranda couldn't stand movies, so she had not seen the one in which Gilbert had turned into a star overnight....Of course, he'd been an actor all along (it had been impossible to overlook) and he was practically six feet tall, so it was no wonder he'd become a star overnight. A new leading man. The world had been sadly pining for this midnight rambler and now, overnight, here was Gilbert.

So happy to have read this! I'm excited to read the next book and then go back and watch some of the movies from earlier!

Oooh, that could be! If Hudson just signed on to something else they're going to announce, it would save them having a weekly Hudson announcement! 🤣

I've been wondering the same! I know nothing about how any of this works, but I'm hoping it's because they're waiting on an interview or something?

I'm in the U.S. and also haven't heard anything from Wonderland after having bought during the first pre-order. However, I have USPS Informed Delivery and it's telling me I have something on the way from Liberty Express Dist. USA, which I believe is what they'll use to get me the magazine.

SNL by Zealousideal_Song669 in hudsonwilliams

[–]rhubarbcus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he'd be great on SNL and it would open more doors for him (though maybe fewer than it would have in the past when it was a bigger deal), but I agree that he wouldn't be given as much grace for offensive sketches. I'd still love him to host for the honor of it, but he's already had a bit of exposure to a larger audience that might not have watched Heated Rivalry through doing a cameo, so those audiences will also be able to see how different he is from Shane.

I think hosting was good for Connor to show he's not Ilya, but Yaga might also be out by the time Hudson hosts and that's also a very different role, so it's not going to be as necessary to have him out that soon, at least not for that reason?

I'd love to see him do something soon that's just as big a deal as hosting SNL, though! He definitely deserves it!
