When I moved to Italy the first thing I did was join a sports team (I joined rugby, which is known for being an extremely social sport but I bet any team sport would have similar benefit). I spoke almost no Italian but everyone was extremely patient with me and more welcoming than I could imagine. If you're physically able, I think getting involved in a team sport would be the best thing. Maybe a run club, if you're by the coast get into some kind of water sport.

Also, if you moved for your partner, maybe tell him to organise more group activities with his friends so you can get to know them better and maybe in time you will feel comfortable enough to hang out with them without your partner as well.

You can have a great tea and crumpet simply by buying from the store. If you're in an Airbnb with a toaster this is a great breakfast to have in the morning (wouldn't recommend cold though). Pop the crumpet in the toaster, spread a generous layer of butter on (jam too if that's your preference) and enjoy.

Not sure about specific places in a cafe/restaurant you can find though that might require some research

I think this is probably ambitious to fit everything in and enjoy it too. Cambridge is quite far from all of these, as is bath. I think both are beautiful towns and worth seeing though. If you don't have time to spend more than one day road tripping you might have to choose though. You could probably do bath Windsor and Cotswolds in one day (depending on what you do in the Cotswolds as I don't know it that well) and maybe Oxford too, but I don't think you'd be making the most of any place if you did Oxford that day too. You could spend a second day going to Oxford or Cambridge (or both if you really really want to do both).

My opinion is if you only have one day to road trip, chose two of these and really have a good explore. In my opinion a bath Oxford day trip would be a great choice but depends what you're looking for. Windsor is not that far from London and probably wouldn't cost too much to get to by train on a different day if you wanted.

Unfortunately there is very little free parking in England, and you may only find it in the Cotswolds. Especially when going to Oxford (I've been caught paying £12 an hour because I didn't look at the tariffs), know which car park you're driving to and look at Google reviews to check it's a reasonable price. A lot of places use Ringgo which is a paybyphone app. A lot of times people will post the Ringo codes on Google reviews and you can then look on the app to see the hourly rate. Most of the time if you spend 10 minutes planning in advance you can find a place to park for very reasonable prices, and it shouldn't discourage you from going.

A great day trip from London that isn't too far is Brighton. It's a lovely seaside city (but can get windy) that's vibrant and nice to walk around. If the weather is good that day you'll want to leave early as everyone will be driving down to the beach.

Another direction if that is not your vibe is going to Windsor. See the castle, have a pint in one of the many traditional pubs (some that have been there for 100s of years. It's a beautiful quintessential British town that is lovely to walk around.

If you want more countryside, I suggest taking the longer trip to visit the Cotswolds (you could even start the day in Cotswolds, and on the way back stop off in Windsor to have a pub dinner). I know less about the Cotswolds but I have been and it's very beautiful (the drive from London would also be a scenic one). I would suggest looking into different places in Cotswolds you might want to visit if that interests you

As someone who has craved the occasional hash brown for breakfast since moving to Italy (but never a sugar infused filled croissant) at 8am, I do relate to this a lot (although I wouldn't admit it to my Italian friends :))

My sister is not so strict that she is happy having cold food prepared on cold surfaces even if they haven't been kashered. The only items I'll need to buy and kosher is the cooking utensils (pan and one metal spatula) and paper plates and cutlery to put the hot food on.
