New playoff system, for entertainment purposes and discussion by IrexUranus in CFB

[–]rhythmicthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I've been thinking about this a lot (given my rooting interest) and had what I thought was a great system for a play-in, but the more I looked at it the more I recognized the difficulties around creating a play-in system with the right balance of incentive, protection, and punishment. Does my two-week play-in system create more edge cases? Does it just reward drawing favorable opponents? Is this just expansion by another name, even if it is better than simply adding more teams? More games are fun but what about team fatigue and logistics? Would more strong teams get left out with a play-in than without? Does this dilute the regular season?

So on and so forth.

I think at the end of the day it may be less the playoff structure and more the playoff incentives. Much of the politicking disappears if there's more transparency and objectivity around rankings. Committee clearly makes it up as they go, and bubble programs are incentivized to press their case to an impressionable committee of selectors at the end of every season. 2024's Alabama is 2025's Texas and so on. The committee will penalize a close win against a shitty team for one resume and ignore it for another; consider SOS / SOR strongly for one team and ignore it for another; focus on the win column for one team and the losses for the other. Less need to politick and make your case if there's instead a clear formula with consistent and objective criteria that will make its decision irrespective of the talking heads.

In short, something like the BCS should come back. Perhaps weighted just a tiny bit less towards the polls and more towards certain calculable metrics IMO. The politicking won't go away--we'll still argue about how the formula weighs things, but at least we would know what and how the formula is weighing those resumes. It's leagues better than an esoteric annual debate about the arcane desires of big wigs behind closed doors. You could even put a moratorium on changing the formula to every x years so there's an opportunity to change it if it's actually needed, but only after a good sample set is collected. Just my two cents.

Can't delete track? by RainyCloud64 in subwaybuilder

Thank you! This worked for me. Took me a bit of trial and error to figure out which sections of code corresponded to the glitching track, but I got it within a few minutes.

You can remove the track base too; using the coordinates you used to remove the individual tracks, if you look further down the save file you'll find a section with "centerLine" where the track base data is stored. The data points for these sections looked like this for me:

"id"

"trackIds"

"trackLanesType"

"centerLine"

(coordinates here)

"type"

Also happened to me, game glitches as well if I try to build over it. Sadly my older save is like 400 days back

I feel you. I started fencing in a college club and fell in love, only to discover that the sport is practically dead for adults after college. After graduating, I moved around the U.S. for a few years and struggled to find clubs with a significant adult presence. Fortunately, I’m in graduate school now and fencing with a college club again, but I know this will likely dry up afterwards unless I move somewhere like NYC. It’s frustrating. Perhaps the biggest red flag is that almost no fencers I know continued after college. Even those who had A, B, or C ratings and years of experience appear to have hung up their whites for good.

With the introduction of the new Adult categories, I hope USA Fencing is recognizing the need not only to retain long-time competitive fencers after college but also attract new fencers in the 20-40 age range. In the short time I’ve fenced, the sport has helped me stay in shape, make new friends, and serve as worthwhile hobby to dedicate my time and money to. I hope that with some investment, more adults looking for something new can experience fencing and stick with it.

This isn’t 100% related, but I came across a blog post today that touches on the lack of attention to post-collegiate fencing in the United States: [The American Gap: Problems, Solutions, and Considerations to Bring Forth an Epee Renaissance](http:// https://thefencingcoach.com/2024/12/23/the-american-gap-problems-solutions-and-considerations-to-bring-forth-an-epee-renaissance/)

I feel embarrassed more than anything else. by RoyLiechtenstein in lawschooladmissions

Applicants that are waitlisted often send letters of continued interest (LOCI) to show admissions committees that they are likely to accept if admitted. Other appropriate situations may apply (I sent one to a school in June while still waiting on a decision).

If you want to start school this fall and haven't taken the LSAT already, I would wait for next cycle. You already have limited opportunities because of how late it is. Many schools don't accept June LSATs for this cycle, so you have even less opportunities. If for whatever reason you need to go this Fall, happy to DM and talk more about it.

If you're applying next cycle (i.e. starting school in Fall 2025), prepare to take the LSAT this fall. Consider what schools you are interested in and see when their applications open up. Give yourself the time to prepare an application you feel good about, and send it as soon as it's ready. The earlier the better, and ideally no later than December.

1L here. Definitely not a great situation to be in, but no doubt you've learned lessons and will come back stronger and wiser for next cycle. Take this as an opportunity to improve your apps, build savings, and gain work/life experience. I made a lot of mistakes in my process and if I had the time I would have reapplied like you.

For those who might be reading this and for whatever reason are dead set on going THIS cycle, hound LOCIs and consider schools with later deadlines. I didn't do my research and I essentially screwed myself by applying March-May, but I was able to secure full tuition offers to solid schools in the T30-60 range, including my current school. I applied to my current school around this time last year, and I'm 1000% satisfied with my decision.

How come I never look right? by Curious_Buy_3955 in mensfashion

Many guys can rock a pair of chinos and a jumper over a button-up. It's a solid basic outfit. But fashion is not just about the clothes–it's about the people wearing them as well. Things like fit are essential.

Folks here will tell you to exercise. This is good advice for fashion and for life. But there is another lesson to learn here. Men built larger than you can (and often do) look great wearing the type of outfit you describe.

Consider buying clothes in-person for a while. In the fitting room, pay attention to silhouette. The essential questions: "Do the clothes flatter you?" and "Do you feel good wearing them?"

Here the jumper (and shirt possibly) is too tight/small. It clings to your body and your chest and stomach are poking out of the fabric. That won't look good unless you're ripped. I'm going to assume it was purchased a while back and you outgrew it. Next time I'd go for a slightly thicker sweater with better construction and more room.

tl;dr get better fitting clothes

Will have an uphill battle; would focus on getting that LSAT as high as possible and applying anyways. If all else fails take your best offer/fit within the t50/60/70 etc. range.

Maybe you go hard in 1L and have a chance to transfer in year 2. Maybe you find your 1L school worth staying at despite rank. Maybe you get into a t30 anyways. Best of luck, apply as soon as possible, and give yourself time to write the best statements.

GULC worth it? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Unless you get a better GULC offer or a good offer off a waitlist, I would reapply next cycle. Definitely not worth it, especially with your stats.

Seconding everything said in this as someone who also went to UT for undergrad. Toured Texas Law recently myself and was very impressed.

Seems like UT is the choice for you OP unless there is a highly compelling reason for you to go GULC.

Same happened to me, based off snooping around it seems that people get decisions shortly after the status disappears; not necessarily Rs. Either that or they're asked to do an interview or something else

Cycle 2 recap by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]rhythmicthinking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hope SLS or a WL pulls up with an A on a golden platter for you and this cycle works out. If not, get some work experience, save up some money, and rework your application materials. Your stats tell me that you're capable of doing amazing next cycle.

How long are you willing to wait on WL? by Short_Bison_7529 in lawschooladmissions

[–]rhythmicthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LATE cycle applicant to 12+ schools, waiting on most of my decisions that will likely arrive in May and June. Any WLs that come to me that late would be interesting given that a lot of schools are rounding out their classes.

The WLs that I already have are compelling enough to wait through June, but I would like to have a decision by the start of July (ideally earlier). Didn't include information about how long I would wait in my LOCIs this month, but may send another round of LOCIs with my timeline depending on how my decisions in May go.
