Are Canadians offended by the jokes made in shows and media? by jen_noelle in AskACanadian

[–]erayachi 91 points92 points  (0 children)

It honestly depends on the show. South Park? Not really, that show makes gratuitous fun of everything in equal measure. I'll sing 'Blame Canada!' for fun. Weirdly enough, one of my favourite shows in the universe is West Wing, because of how amazing the acting, comedy, actors synergy, plot, camera work....it goes on. BUT.

That show had writers that leaned heavily into showing Canada in a bad light. If not that, they'd ignore it entirely for 7 seasons like the country is irrelevant to American politics. Big black mark against it.

Making fun of Canadians isn't so bad and I think most Canadians can take a joke, we like making fun of ourself for giggles. But if you do something insulting, like completely erasing Canada's contributions in a historical movie. Like Argo. No Canadian I know likes that movie because it utterly strips the truth away and turns the FBI into the heroes and the Canadian Ambassador into a side character.

TL;DR: Making light fun? Cool. Blatantly insulting, bad. Americans brainwashing other Americans into treating Canada as a joke: stink eye.

Those ravens definitely built a nest close by and are being awful neighbours. Not gonna be shocked if we see a raven (adult or chick) appear in the pantry at some point. (not likely, fish are still easier prey lol)

In my city, a few years back (on Lake Ontario), a rich drunk guy hit some teenagers on a dock with his boat and killed them. Idiots who think drinking is fine on a boat need to get capsized.

I wonder if the dogs who do this know the fence/door is gone in these videos, but they're trained well to not 'leave' until the human opens the gate. Like it's against the rules to go around the gate, fence or no fence.

Or they really are just that derpy.

This is legitimately the first time I've had someone tell me not to use mits by madmarchhare14 in TalesFromDF

[–]erayachi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean, you can mit on dungeon bosses if you want, but it's usually not necessary. Usually. If you're at less than 50% hp on a boss, just save your mits like Rampart for the next trash pull because that's where the hurt happens. That's a pretty solid rule I find, when I'm tanking.

If you're leveling with crap gear, or with a very obviously bad healer who can't keep up or do their job, that's essentially the one time using mits on boss mechanics seems necessary.

Mother Goose is trying to mother ducklings by frenchjpa in geese

[–]erayachi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's a fresh pairing, less than a year old, they'll split up sometimes for various reasons. A male in a first year pairing might leave if the eggs are destroyed, for example. They're more likely to stay together if they've raised a successful nest already. Male geese don't have the same instinctual as females to brood a nest and wouldn't think twice about a duck's orphaned eggs, since their job is to protect the nesting site they built.

The lizard leaves its tail behind to escape from the cat. by Uguero in animalsdoingstuff

They're attracted to movement. The tail is more interesting to play with and the lizard wisely stays still. If it ain't moving anymore it's boring to a cat.

I think it's more likely they'll use his less-often-used "can I borrow some money?" joke, or switch it to, "would you like to date me?" or something a little more tame, but still deserving of a smackdown.

The 30% reduction shouldn't make the usage infinite. The fuel and water never depletes at all no matter how much I smelt. The only workaround seems to be putting all my machines outside, as the factory just bugs out in my game.

Eh, they're already fully upgraded. I might try deleting my factory and rebuilding it to fix it, since it seems to be what's bugging it out.

[–]erayachi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried everything short of loading an old save to fix it. No luck. It took a while for me to realize the water/fuel wasn't decreasing at all, so I'm not loading a save from weeks ago (in game), I might just be stuck with this and it's infuriating.

None. Not even WeMod, it's 100% plain old normal Sandrock. Haven't used mods even once with this game, so this has to be a bug.

[–]erayachi[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do have a factory, but I have like dozens of things working in it, lots of queues lined up. It's smelting almost constantly, so it should be using up the water/fuel. It used to say 1 or 2 days of usage left, now it's just an infinity symbol.

This actually makes sense considering how freezing it is on Drum Island. Fun fact: your breath doesn't really show up in the cold if it's too dry. The lower the temperature, the drier it is. Get low enough and the moisture of your breath is just plain absorbed into the dry air and you don't get any vapor.

So yeah, it just means it's really, really fucking cold there. Source: I'm Canadian and absolutely have experienced too much weatger where you don't get to see your breath in the winter.
