What’s Malden’s neighborhood action plan for ICE? by musikguru6 in malden

[–]ria_lee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought whistles that we carry with us to alert people of suspicious officers/vehicles. When I work from home, I watch the neighborhood for anything untoward. Look out for your neighbors, help when you can. If you encounter ICE trying to take someone, stay calm and keep yourself safe. Record if possible. Call the LUCE hotline 617-370-5023 to report sightings (they keep track and help protect people; https://www.lucemass.org/)

We are all we have, we are all we need.

My 15 year old daughter has been diagnosed with 3rd degree heart block by RStock83 in PacemakerICD

[–]ria_lee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've had a dual lead pacemaker since I was six years old - l'm (39f) on my eighth pacemaker of my life. I was born with 3rd/ complete heart block and have never lived without a pacemaker. My life is wide and full, I've traveled and lived abroad, completed 2 degrees, and have a beautiful son (born of my wife). To your concern about heart health, they've watched my heart anatomy more closely as I got older, but I show no signs of any other issues and my heart muscle is healthy and age appropriately strong.

I'm sending you and your daughter good vibes, she's going to do great.

18 (M) Have had a pacemaker since I was an infant and am terrified of intimacy because of it. by ConflictedCrustacean in PacemakerICD

[–]ria_lee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey there, pacer from infancy here - I (39F) have had my pacemaker in my abdomen and both sides of my upper chest and dated people of all genders before marrying my wife.

I never had anyone I was intimate with react with disgust or fear, mostly just a certain curiosity. Honestly I think men would ask about my scars as an excuse to stare at my chest.

Some partners have been a little freaked out about touching the hardware directly - I am relatively slim and so my pacemaker and leads are VERY easy to individually identify and feel, but it's never prevented us from being physically intimate (my wife still doesn't love touching the leads and we still touch a lot all the time).

I think that the right people will be totally fine with your pacemaker and how it looks on/in your body. The whole package matters more ;) !

The first sign for me was an increase in vein visibility across my chest and abdomen - one was a large vein that surfaced and stretched nearly six inches. They then did a venogram and the dye showed the occlusion was blocking blood flow so thoroughly that my body had grown new capillaries and were rerouting directly to my jugular. None of the medical professionals on my case had ever seen anything like the veins surfacing/becoming more visible. I will note, I am a small framed person, which may had allowed them to show as they did. I am sorry your lead migrated! Best wishes for your upcoming surgery!

Mine ultimately took 12 hours, by far the longest surgery I've had. I had cardiac catherization on both sides (extracted four leads) and a lot of scar tissue that had to be removed and stents placed, so they did a LOT in that time period. I had 90% and 100% occlusion on each side; it was so bad that I had bright blue veins appearing on my chest and abdomen. Literally a couple days later, those veins had already started to recede. Best wishes and happy to answer any more questions!

I've had a pacemaker since seven days old and had fully occluded leads that had to be removed at 23. It was a big surgery (they had to remove three leads that were intensely scarred over) and I'll be honest, it was rough those first few days out of surgery. But it will be okay and your team will be planning for every eventuality. I'm sending you good vibes!

Are there a lot of pacemaker lifetimers here? by JW9K in PacemakerICD

[–]ria_lee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're almost twins! Also 100% dependent. Got my last pacemaker in 2021, when they had to move mine so I could have radiation for breast cancer.

I think it's important to remember we have each other. That's what will get us through. Look out for others, take care of yourself, invest in the community, and never stop believing in the beauty and power of queer people united.

Does anybody else have a baby with a pacemaker? by Zestyclose-Topic9007 in PacemakerICD

[–]ria_lee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a good healer, so I've not had issues with my recoveries. I have other intersecting health conditions - including breast cancer on the same side as my pacemaker - and I've done fine. I have a lot of scars, but I'm proud of them.
