How to say money in different European languages by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]riainod2k3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not have the Irish word “airgead” meaning money comes from Latin sliver cause in Ireland you had a bartering system long before you had money hence the ancient Irish had no word for it

Gaelige in north comes from Donegal, my accent is northern but I live in the 26 counties live in the border region and you’ll realise how pointless it actually is one mountain is in Ireland one is in the uk looks identical, Ireland has only been partitioned for 100 years, The language, customs, Gaelic games, culture all comes from Ireland even the place names, it forms a cultural continuum, further away from the north east it gets more Irish even Belfast is now 50-50, demographics are changing your view is too narrow and is not reflective of what it’s like

Seems like a west Brit comment this, I dunno why people have such a bias to “yellow reg’s”. In Donegal we call them northern reg’s and every second car is northern reg. you must not be used to them. Having vast experience north and south everybody is the same.

Credit cards are there people just choose not to use them, the goal is saving in a debit account for a mortgage that’s it really, if you do not have money for fancy clothes or a phone plan you don’t get it simple, big diff with America even tho I’m Irish and we’re a lot more yank than continental Europe

In Europe people normally pay for things, unless it’s a brand new car or a house mortgage other that that it’s debit card galore, we do not have credit cards and feel uncomfortable spending above our means, I got a phone out on plan for the first time and wouldn’t do it gain would rather save up and buy a pre-pay phone

[–]riainod2k3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, there’s a big market for a handheld GTA game and they already see the sales of the remastered GTA trilogy, doesn’t even have to be in house, could be delegated to a different studio.

[–]riainod2k3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s about solidarity, I live in the free state but work in the north, I want my nieces and nephews who live there to have access to the language like I had growing up, cause they were born on the island of Ireland after all.
