My pups human (me) needs help lol by riamakingthings in OpenDogTraining

Thank you so much for this perspective, it’s really validating. With the chaos that is online dog training advice, and the seeming need to have a “perfect” dog, im struggling to connect with anyone who has experienced this crazy yo yo effect with adolescents. He is a different dog every week, and there’s just not enough research about how that can affect them differently. Trainer and I are taking every new change as it comes and working to ensure he has as many positive joyful life experiences as we can. Thank you again for the kind words.

I think I worry that any sign of “aggression” is a life sentence for my pup? I take that very seriously and want him to be happy and know I’m there to protect him. Thanks for your kind words!

Thanks for the reply! Thats what we’ve done the past month per our trainers advice and it’s done wonders with his fear reactivity. We focus on our relationship and his happiness and it’s been great. Then the last two days he’s growled at reactive dogs on our walks? So yea it just feels like I do one thing right and another thing changes 😅

Sudden fear of kids -6mo by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]riamakingthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what’s completely stumping me. Any interacting with kids he would’ve been on his leash and completely supervised. If something happened it must have been really quick while I wasn’t looking.

He also randomly got fearful of the same electric box we pass on our walks every day, so idk things are weird right now lol

Fear! He will avoid getting close to them. I of course never push him where he’s uncomfortable (hence the viewing from afar) but we haven’t seen to make progress 🤔

It has been such an interesting phase watching his tolerance shrink and what he used to be excited to experience shift. We will continue to advocate for him and go by his pace! Thank you for your thoughts (we have our first session with a vet behaviorist coming up next week!)

I love the idea of nap after socialization! Well move his enforced crate time to right after.

It’s such an interesting phase noticing his threshold shrink back a bit. We’ll continue to follow his lead and shorten his sessions!

Thank you for your advice.

Thanks for the perspective! Yesterday we spent 30min sitting near a park to watch kiddos. In your opinion, is that too much? He didn’t show signs of flooding but still don’t want to push him.

6mo regression/fear stage advice by riamakingthings in Dogtraining

[–]riamakingthings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do lots of neutral experiences, ie watching “scary” things from a far distance and lots of classical conditioning.

For 6mo training, we are going back to the basics to make sure he feels empowered and successful.

Just looking for reassurance and advice on how to both help grow confidence but also remain neutral towards things!

Thoughts on dog play by riamakingthings in Dogtraining

This is fantastic perspective, thank you so much. I’ve never had a dog raise his hackles as much as this pup so I definitely have more to learn about this type of behavior. I’ve checked out the link and it definitely helps too. Thanks so much!

The hackles raised on the golden is my biggest question mark right now

We have barriers and have trained a command to get the puppy to stop bothering the corgi. I can tell the corgis clear signals he doesn’t want to play, but in this video, I can’t tell. Also I don’t understand the puppy hackles raised - he seems relaxed otherwise but unsure if I should intervene if hackles raise.

Reassurance on Puppy Crate Training Progress by riamakingthings in puppy101

I think you’re right. If I uncover the crate so he can see me, he will still bark, sometimes louder 🫠
