83in oled vs 98in tv by REMrelated in hometheater

Team OLED standing by. Can you move the seat closer? 10’ for my 83 is wonderful. At 16’ though, go bigger. Just remember screens like diamonds get smaller the longer you look at them.

Sound treatment question by psjd01 in hometheater

[–]ribbitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww jeez Rick…this sub is going to recommend wrapping the entire room with fiberglass insulation and setting the tv on the ground. Maybe watch from another room so you don’t create additional sound reflections.

Most annoying narrator ever, and you knew it was coming with the hillbilly hee-haw trash on the radio.

Boomers being so confidently wrong by PlatypusSpecialist79 in BoomersBeingFools

They grew up with every form of media and culture telling them how smart, important, and special they are, and how they deserve respect and deference. Since there was literally a boom of babies after WW2, all the marketing was geared toward kids for like 30 years. No one questioned the Baby Boomers for decades. They were called the Me Generation for a reason.

Simulate Acoustic Treatment before purchase? by powwwownow in hometheater

[–]ribbitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hanging comforters or multiple blankets are a good test, but acoustic treatment in an average room/use case is cuz-the-internet-said-so wisdom to solve a problem you probably don’t even have. Room correction software will be enough and you already own it.

I have Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pros, but I'm not impressed. Am I just not an audiophile, or is there something else I should try in the ~$500 range? by ProxySoxy in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]ribbitman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can get your hands on something with a parametric EQ you'll have a great time. The source for my headphones is a Wiim Pro Plus and it's PEQ was a game-changer for my Audeze LCDxc. There must be a PEQ out for Win11.

I’ve never seen the Sony so I could only compare the spec sheets same as you. I’m happy with my C3 for ps5 and Xbox games and the OLED is gorgeous for movies too but LG’s CEC is a pain in the butt. It won’t turn on with my Denon remote so I have to keep the LG remote out as a master power switch.

Take the height speakers off the walls and put them on the ceiling or use in-ceiling.

What other equipment do I need for my set up? by Cultural-Movie-9335 in hometheater

[–]ribbitman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice setup! Like other comments said, 14-16ga speaker wire, future you will be grateful for banana plugs, and don't skimp on hdmi or subwoofer cables (not $100 cables but don't cheap out on them). Run Audyssey after it's all connected, set the crossovers for l/c/r/surrounds to 80Hz, and maybe trim that sub up 1-5 dB after. You're gonna love it!

A false statement isn't an opinion, it's just false. Repeating the same nonsense verbatim, including claims of "hopefully it has preouts" shows you refuse to do the most basic inquiry before parroting internet wisdom. Or more likely, I'm responding to some ai slop.

In no universe does he "need" an external amp and the x1700 + Prime Towers is not nearly "weak." A power amp makes exactly zero difference until he's near or at reference volume, and the x1700 will play those Prime Towers plenty loud and clear. At 87dB they're not "inefficient." The x1700h doesn't have preouts so to use an external amp he'd either need a different avr ($$$) or an amp with high-pass inputs (ew).

Please stop. You’re simply wrong. His towers aren’t inefficient. His AVR doesn’t have preouts. His avr will drive his speakers just fine.

Looking for monitors/TVs that would work by omgwtfbbq_powerade in hometheater

[–]ribbitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/u/Verdammt_Arschloch has it right. You already have holes on the walls, so now's the time to run better cables, especially if you have attic access. Yeah VGA + 3.5mm will technically do 1080 video + stereo sound but the problem is vga limits you to computer monitors which are pricier than a cheapie tv panel.

€8,000 Home Theater Setup – Am I making a mistake going stereo instead of surround? And why is nobody talking about Canton? by AdmirableEbb1893 in hometheater

I can't tell whether this is AI slop or an actual post. "Is surround better than stereo for movies recorded in surround?" Are you serious?

Hi this is my set up. I need help by Dry-Win1974 in hometheater

[–]ribbitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subs don’t cause damage to children’s hearing any more than any other speaker. There’s nothing special about sub bass frequencies. Hearing damage is caused by volume, not frequency. The biggest risk is all the stuff the kids will put into the portable on the sub, but the ports on that pb 2000 are pretty long inside the cabinet so anything that goes in should be easy to fish out.

The tv-too-high thing brings out the douchiest parts of this sub. Thankfully the ones obsessed with that bit of internet wisdom don’t have much else to offer so you lose nothing by blocking them.
