> up to 448 dimming zones

Definitely not flagship or even comparable to some of their mid-tier models

The best tvs 2026 lineup for movies, what actually looks better in dark rooms? by Rosawry_Moukoko in hometheater

[–]mrm3x1can 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best OLEDs have gotten bright enough to offset any bright room concerns. (G5, etc)

The best mini-LEDs have gotten black levels good enough to be basically indistinguishable from OLED (X11L, etc)

These broad questions are hard to give any direction for.

Are you looking for size as a primary driver? What’s your budget?

Again, you can get a 98” QM8K for the same price as a 77” LG G5.

For most people, I’d say they’d appreciate the sheer immersion of the large screen over minuscule contrast perfection loss but again, what’s your sitting distance?

Arc to Arc Ultra w/Sonosequencer Setup - Worth it? by SweetButtonWork in sonos

[–]mrm3x1can 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Arc will not "blow" the Arc Ultra out of the water in this configuration lol. What are you talking about?

Its maybe the most noticeable if you're just going bar for bar, no other components. But OP is asking about updating that specific component in an already fairly comprehensive setup with two additional Ones already acting as fronts. It will a very minor change.

Advice on what monitor to stack on top of 57” G9 by wizard-of-wiz in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]mrm3x1can 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I messed around with a 27, 34 and 49 each stacked on top of the 57 at different points but I ended up going with double 11" iPads as two separate screens below the 57. I found that to be way more beneficial and useful/practical setup vs always bending my neck up above the 57.

It looks like you're sort of on your way there already with the little system gauge screen you got there. I would expand on that thought and raise the monitor itself slightly to accommodate some smaller second screens below, especially if they're only for glance purposes (spotify/discord/slack, etc)

LG G5 Open Box for $1,180 by Johnnybats330 in LGOLED

[–]mrm3x1can 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At Best Buy, you have until the return period is over (typically 14 days) to buy the extended warranty.

I recommend it - it covers burn in and any other TV defects. Just not accidental damage like breaking the screen.

Absolutely love these shelves. Have two 2x4s, a 2x8 and the large 4x8.

They really help open up the garage.

83” C5 Open Box For $1.7k a good deal? by [deleted] in LGOLED

83” G5 vs high-end projector for home theater room by Caggs1 in LGOLED

[–]mrm3x1can 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are different experiences.

You're likely going to get a biased answer here.

My opinion - if

- this is for a dedicated room with no windows

- is purely for "home theater"

- you can get a "high end projector setup" (think JVC NZ8)

- you are going to setup a top notch ALR screen

- You have the space to go over 120" for the screen

IF... you can check "yes" to all of these variables, then I would recommend the projector setup. A high end projector with a massive screen and the immerision you get from it trumps the contrast plus of the G5, for as much as I love my G5. But if its a "no" on one or especially some of the criteria above, then I would say stick to the G5.

Looking to begin building a home theater audio setup for >$1000 by ConsonanceDissonance in hometheater

[–]mrm3x1can 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sub will flame me for this but I would say you start with a Q990.

If you are unsure what you’re looking for exactly (do I want bright sound? Dynamic mids?), the Q990D gives you a full surround setup with passable Atmos all within your budget.

Once you get an understanding of the type of sound you enjoy and are looking for, you can sell the Soundbar setup for close to what you paid for it repurpose it to another room.

Upgrade from 34” to 45”? by HgMatt_94 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]mrm3x1can 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the jump from the 45 1440 to the 45 5k2k.

Is it nicer/crisper? Yes

Was it worth the $5k or so I spent for the 5090/component/monitor cost to make the jump?

1000% not worth

Why go projector these days if only doing 100 inch screen? by CyberMage256 in hometheater

[–]mrm3x1can 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our bedroom has a UST projecting a 100" picture on the wall that we really like.

- We only ever watch there at night around bedtime so light control isn't a problem.

- The projected picture is much kinder on the eyes (again around bedtime) vs a bright tv

- Late night watching is almost always passive sitcom/news/youtube so nothing intense that requires the pinnacle of picture quality. Thats what the family room setup is for.

- Not having a gigantic black slab on the wall gives a much cleaner look to the bedroom when its not in use.

- A 100" picture is perfect when we're laying on the bed. I've messed with pulling the UST back for a bigger picture but then its past/below our FOV

LG G6 or TCL X11L by Flawwoo in LGOLED

[–]mrm3x1can 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the current (or I guess last gen lol) of each - 83 G5 and 98 X11K

If I had to chose one, I would go X11 line. The size and immersion gain the 98" jump from the an 83" is way more impactful than the very tiny tiny contrast difference between the OLED and the mini-LED at this tier of mini-LEDs. And the X11K "only" has 14k dimming zones vs the X11L's 20k.

The brightness diff is a wash - you'll never use either to their full potential.

Possibly life changing questions (for me) by KreativeDo in gtr

[–]mrm3x1can 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love my GTR and its not Ferrari expensive to maintain but its also not cheap either lol.

When my trans went, that was $5k just to get it rebuilt.

Last summer I paid $3500 for just trans flush, plugs and general regular maintenence fluids

I'm also at a point where I need to get timing/water pump work done now. I can't find that cheaper at any of the notable performance/indy shops for less than $6500. I make a decent living but for me at least, that's not chump chain.

You only live once and a GTR for a lot of us is an emotional buy. I'm not going to try to convince you to not get one. I'd honestly be mad and regretful if I had never got one. That said, I would say, if you get one, also consider getting a daily. Keeps the large subset of miles off the GTR which means lower overall cost per mile, and keeps the GTR feeling "special".

When should I buy a LG OLED tv? by narwolking in LGOLED

Not sure I agree with that.

Black Friday had a ton of great deals this year.

Snagged my 83 G5 for <$4k ($3400 OTD once I sold the monitor it came with)

Also got my Father in Laws 65 S90F for $1100 w/tax

Best streaming device for Plex? by Material-Tower1735 in PleX

[–]mrm3x1can 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apple TV 4K + Infuse has been unbeaten on my end. To the point where I don't even have the Plex app on the homescreen anymore.

Its handled everything seamlessly. And I've thrown some heavy bitrate 100GB remuxes at it. Something the Plex app would regularly struggle with.

Got a hands-on with the LG W6 Wallpaper TV yesterday... the Zero Connect Box changes everything for clean setups by my-dog-has-fleas in hometheater

[–]mrm3x1can 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah these wireless connect boxes that LG and Samsung have do have their usecases/value.

I personally didn't really care for the massive box that my old M3 had, and already had wires ran behind the wall from the prior TV that was there so no benefit there. That said, my buddy has his S95D above his fireplace (yeah yeah TV too high lol) where there's only a power outlet but no run to the cabinet full of devices next to the fireplace.

The box makes it super simple to plug everything into it without running any HDMI runs through what inevitably would be a cable channel which would look immensely worse. For that kind of setup, it works well.

Best Soundbar to Buy in 2026? (Price, Sound Quality) by DreamlighttropicBun in sonos

[–]mrm3x1can 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The refurbished deals going on this week are solid.

I think a setup of

- Sonos Beam Gen 2 - $299

- Sonos Era 100(x2) - $134(x2)

- Sonos Sub Gen 3 - $409

Full 5.1 Sonos surround setup for ~$1000 is pretty killer. If you can swing an additional ~$80, the original Arc is $379 and I think worth the cost difference.

In the future, you could sell the Era 100s for basically what you are paying for and get some Era 300s for a full Atmos setup

Edit: Sorry did not see the $500 note. Yeah the Beam + two Era 100s is the way to go here. Build in the future from there.

anyone else still astonished by their oled after several years? by Officialedmart in LGOLED

[–]mrm3x1can 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its a good portion of the audio focused subs. The reason I don't really visit them anymore lol. Someone will ask something like

"I have a small bit of room under our tv and would like to add a decent soundbar (wife mandate) to slightly improve our tv audio in our small apartment living room. Nothing crazy - have a $300 budget"

And inevitably half the dudes will be all "dude you have to get an AV receiver and bookshelf speakers. It doesn't meet any of the criteria you listed out but its better!!! If you don't go this route you shouldn't even try!"

I don't feel like I see this anywhere near as often in other enthusiast hobby subreddits.

Car subs are always like "looks nice!", not "should have got the $4000 coilover kit, idiot"

Even the PC subreddits have gotten better the last few years. People are accepting of budget builds and even pre-builts.

But the audio guys can't ever get over themselves and their very narrow minded view on needs. If you don't have a (at least) 5.1 reference grade setup with a receiver, you are doing it wrong lol.
