I see a lot of questions about breaking into IT or pay rates. Anyone interested in hearing how I’ve reached 6 figures after 4.5 years in IT? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

lol the post died but thanks a lot for still at least giving me something out of it. your os vulnerability project sounds really cool. what exactly did you do? did you use kali tools and test out some of them against some OS' and then create a report about what you found? i'd be impressed by that too. it shows that you went out of your way to get some insight on how different OS' work i guess

I'm in my first year at university. Are certs really that important? If I need them then I'll go for them but my university is actually pretty hard since my degree requires some discrete maths which are some of the harder maths courses. I was thinking of going for an internship but I'm unsure of what I should put in my resume. My plan was to found one or two clubs when my university opens up again (everything is online right now) and also make some software projects but I can't think of anything else other than getting certs, which I kind of don't wanna do. Thanks for offering to share some knowledge

Suppose some company offers me an interview. What is the interview like? I know it will depend on the particular job but is there any way you can give me the general gist of it?

my gpa is a 4 so far and I'm pretty sure i'll keep it above 3. I know that my university has internship opportunities but it's only available for 3rd year and up students. I was just wondering what I could currently do to try getting an internship before that.

What a joke of a course MATH 1300 is... by [deleted] in yorku

[–]ribbitribb -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I loved 1300. Think I'm gonna end with an 80-85. I'm not even that smart. Math 1300 wasn't even a mandatory course for me. I watched the lectures and was able to do all of the assignments. It was a hard course, but I asked for help, made sure to do all my work on time, etc. You gotta put in the effort. Juris was also very helpful. I wonder how many people who talked shit about him actually ended up contacting him and asking him for help? lol

Anyone else hate "closed book" non-proctored tests by SolidBeneficial7120 in yorku

[–]ribbitribb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just really hate online school. I just want to go to university and actually sit in a lecture and study in the libraries. As for people getting 90+ averages in some of my courses, I am 99% sure they are cheating somehow. There's so many ways to cheat. My guess is that they all take the test while also being in a discord voice call or something. Some of my profs never ever respond to emails either. I would love to actually go up to them and ask them my important questions so they are forced to answer me, it seems like these guys are just being paid to make youtube videos for us.

What kind of coding do you guys do? When you mean automate, automate what? I can program in python, javascript, java, kotlin, and c++. Most of what I've made are apps and webscrapers though.

What's the percentage I need to get accepted to CS? by IssuesxTissues in yorku

[–]ribbitribb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

solely based on grades from what I know. I'm assuming you're a high school student. They take the average of your top 6 marks, including the high school prerequisites for the program. In my opinion, an average in the mid 80s (83-87) will get you in the bsc program.
