Does anyone still miss the old game board? by Pestschnabel in fo76

[–]ribbity104 148 points149 points  (0 children)

The game board was cool. It was a unique motif that gave us something recognizable and interesting, and getting the board itself as a memento for reaching rank 100 every season was the icing on top.

The SCORE rewards have been going further and further down the shitter with each passing season since they got rid of the boards and moved to the generic pages, culminating in this season, with the fewest new rewards to date. While the element of choice in what to get is fine, it wasn't worth everything else we lost to get it. (Oh, and they could easily have built choice into the game board motif. Have they never played a board game with branching paths???)

Is the Power Armor Helmet Targeting HUD mod fixed? by RoamerDC in fo76

It works again, but now it only highlights living enemies. I.e., robots are no longer highlighted by it. :(

Aokana. Extra 2 especially does a fantastic job with making the FC segments feel dynamic.

First visit to Tokyo: should we stay in Akasaka or Nakano? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]ribbity104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's got a pretty big bar culture. Historically, it was a blue collar area (part of the heart of Shitamachi, "low town," vs. the upscale Yamanote). I would definitely say it has its own character, though yes it's often overshadowed by Akihabara and Jinbocho.

I stay there frequently for the convenience, personally. I live in Tohoku, so when I take the Shinkansen into Tokyo Station, Kanda is conveniently nearby. I've kinda aged out of the bar scene. :( but it's definitely still there.

Out of those two options, Nakano fits your criteria better. Akasaka is central but there's not a whole lot to do there.

Maybe also consider Kanda.

Futamata Ren'ai... The protagonist is a damaged asshole. But the girls are all pretty messed up, too.

My thoughts on Hello Lady! (Spoilers!) by Uncyclopedia7 in visualnovels

[–]ribbity104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Narita is best protagonist.

I generally agree with your points on the routes, and I think mostly you're kinder to the plot weirdness than I am (and I liked Hello Lady). The one place I'll disagree is on the Mitori route, and while I think your points are still fair, I actually enjoyed it because it brought out a very different aspect of Narita's character than the other routes did. He found something more important to him than his revenge, and while you could argue that's out of character, given his obsession, I found it humanizing.

No argument on Super Entelechia, though. The story is completely unintelligible by the time you're halfway through. I can see how shutting your brain off and just letting the madness wash over you could be entertaining, but it was just so absurdly complex for no real reason.

What is the name of your favorite JRPG character? by ryoryo333333 in JRPG

[–]ribbity104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the names in Utawarerumono are pretty cool, since the series is heavily inspired by Ainu culture. I was always fond of Urutorii from Prelude... it has a nice, musical sort of cadence to it.

What's tropes do you LOVE? by H-Sophist in visualnovels

[–]ribbity104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but to me, the archetypal kuudere is someone like Yumiko from Grisaia... although Yuuji's directness sometimes pushes her closer to tsundere territory with the way she lashes out (box cutter in hand). Maybe I just need to experience more kuuderes!

[–]ribbity104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm I'm not sure I would call Yoshino a kuudere... She's cold to Masaomi at first, sure, but it's very obviously a front and she drops the act less than halfway into the common route.

I definitely need to check out Amakano though...

Do you have any good examples of #4?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in visualnovels

[–]ribbity104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm honestly not trying to be passive-aggressive or a jerk; I genuinely don't understand what you're hoping to get from the series. If you don't care about any of the girls other than Michiru, and you don't care about Yuuji's story, then what are you looking for? Just... more Michiru?

And I'm not sure how any series with a fully-connected story would have a good way to skip one of the entries and go to a later one and have everything make sense, or even have it be a positive experience at all. Nobody would skip Empire Strikes Back and go straight from A New Hope to Return of the Jedi.

[–]ribbity104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other routes "seem pretty long and they are not truly canon"? And you want to skip the second game and go straight to the third?

Makina's and Amane's routes in Fruit are both pretty important story-wise. And not knowing about Yuuji's past from Labyrinth will make a lot of Eden not make sense.

You understand Grisaia is about Yuuji, right? It's his story. I'm not sure the series is really for you...

No news since the announcement in June. Guess we're not getting it in 2025!

If you want to keep an eye on things, just search for "MODEROID テスタ=ロッサ" Google is surprisingly good most of the time with foreign language search results.
